MALAYSIA - Traditional Malay Architecture

TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE
Malaysia

A fascinating fusion of tradition and modernity, Malaysia's architecture today is a reflection of Asia's many styles. Traditional Malay architecture employs sophisticated architectural processes ideally suited to tropical conditions such as structures built on stilts, which allow cross-ventilating breeze beneath the dwelling to cool the house whilst mitigating the effects of the occasional flood. High-pitched roofs and large windows not only allow cross-ventilation but are also carved with intricate organic designs.

Traditional houses in Negeri Sembilan were built of hard wood and entirely free of nails. They are built using beams, which are held together by wedges. A beautiful example of this type of architecture can be seen in the Old Palace of Sri Menanti in Negeri Sembilan, which was built around 1905.

Another truly magnificent example of Malay architectural creativity is the Istana Kenangan in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar. Built in 1926, it is the only Malay palace made of bamboo walls.

Istana Kenangan
Perak

Istana Kenangan was built around the same time as Istana Iskandariah. After the calamity of the Big Flood of 1926, when the original palace, Istana Sri Sayong, was almost swept away, a decision was made to built a new palace that is on higher ground. Istana Kenangan was built as a temporary mausoleum for the late Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Iskandar Shah (Marhum Kadasallah), while awaiting the completion of Istana Iskandariah nearby.

Istana Sri Menanti
Negeri Sembilan

Sri Menanti Palace was used as the royal residence until 1932. The central tower which was used as a treasury and royal archives, can only be reached by latter from the Sultan's private rooms, and is not open to the public. At the apex of the structure is a projection type known as "open scissors"

Istana Balai Besar Gates
Kelantan

One of the oldest palaces in the country is found in Kota Baru. The Istana Balai Besar, or Palace with the Great Hall, was built by Sultan Muhammad II in the early 1840s. It was to be used as his residence in place of the current one that was threatened by natural erosion. Now, the palace is no longer home to royalty, but is instead used as a venue for ceremonial functions.

OMG, don't make a new thread discussing the same topic. It's totally unnecessary.
And again, when we talk bout Melayu (as a tribe and cultural entity) we can't separate Indonesia-Malaysia-Singapore. So, the tittle has to be changed I think.
