Friends, if you beleive or not, Mahindra city has become one of the face of Modern Chennai. Infact modern India. It certainly resembles like what was shown in films Mudhalvan/Shivaji ---> New Chennai.

Kannan,

What case are you talking about?
I know that lately there have been some skirmishes between the villagers and the MWC and some of the sellers have remorse now that MWC is developed.

When a SEZ or a township is sanctioned, the developer has to gift all the roads to the local panchayat so that the areas beyond are not blocked.

But SEZ is a bonded area and the Union commerce ministry says there should not be any road cutting across a SEZ. Even DLF Taramani SEZ has this problem of a railway line cutting across.

Mahindra City has offered an alternate road to the backside villages but the litigation is going on.

Wipro has not started its business from Mahindra city. The space was booked as they thought the SEZ facility in Sholinganallur would get filled quickly. Due to recession, this did not happen.
SInce the expansion in their sholinganallur campus is now going on, their MC campus may take 6 months to 1 year atleast to open.

very true.... projects like MWC, that has kept up its promise actually unlike may others including the great OMR, is a world class and world wide example that everyone should follow or get inspiration from. The pics look stunning. You cannot say it is India from the pics. It looks like somewhere in germany.....

Only if the Chennai Heat had mercy on its citizens, the MWC experience will truly be Worth It. I have tried it. Just drive down to MWC during the "chilly(cooler)" season in Chennai. Once you enter MWC, you will really feel like you are driving somewhere in europe.

Paranur - Best of all!!

No doubt MWC is a world class city, but the best of all is they took the initiative to upgrade the nearby station to the same class. If not it definitely would have been an eyesore in front of such a beautiful city.

Mahindra World City Developers Ltd (MWCDL), the pioneer in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) development in India, today inaugurated the redesigned station building and passenger amenities at the Paranur railway station, adjoining Mahindra World City, New Chennai. A public private partnership initiative between Mahindra World City and Southern Railway, the Paranur railway station is the first to be redesigned and maintained by the corporate sector. This is another pioneering effort from Mahindra World City, which has built India’s first operational and highly successful SEZ in a public-private partnership.

Present on the occasion were the Chief Guest, Thiru R.Velu, Honourable Minister of State for Railways, Government of India, Thiru. T.M. Anbarasan, Honourable Minister of Labour, Government of Tamil Nadu and Mr. Arun Nanda, Executive Director, M&M and President – Infrastructure Development Sector, M&M, among other dignitaries.

With an investment of over 1.5 crores, the new station building has modern passenger amenities including:
A spacious ticket counter
Waiting room with modern toilets, including separate toilets for the handicapped
High-Velocity lighting
Landscaping with fountains and flower beds
24X7 security
Steel benches, water fountains and spitoons
Shuttle services between station and companies
Addressing the media on this occasion, the Chief Guest Thiru R.Velu, Honourable Minister of State for Railways, Government of India, said, “The remodeling of the Paranur Railway Station is a welcome initiative by Mahindra World City. This is an outstanding example of how the corporate sector can improve the country’s infrastructure.”

Thiru. T.M. Anbarasan, Honourable Minister of Labour, Government of Tamil Nadu said, “This public private initiative by Mahindra World City is a proud achievement for the state of Tamil Nadu. The is a step towards improving the infrastructure for those employed in Mahindra World City.”

Mr. Arun Nanda, Executive Director, M&M and President – Infrastructure Development Sector, M&M said, “Mahindra World City is the country’s first fully functional SEZ in public-private partnership and we hope to carry this immensely successful partnership with Paranur railway station. It is also our constant endeavor to provide infrastructure on par with global standards, which will enable Mahindra World City to attract the best companies worldwide. Redesign and maintenance of the Paranur railway station is a step forward in our commitment. This station currently operates over 64 local services between Chengelpat and Chennai Beach station with over 2000 people using the services to commute to work. In the next 5 years, we expect 40% of the park population to use the train services.”

SR will do nothing..and even if it does, it will take years...

PPP (Public Private Partnership) is the the way to go....Corporates should also take part on their own - classic example is the IT corridor...why can't the IT companies contribute some money and push for expediting the project?
