Happy hours is from 11-5pm and as I suspected you can only get daily pass at half rates between these times. It would have been better if normal fares were given at a discount during non peak hrs

Valid across MMR region in Non AC buses. Also they have started monthly passes for AC buses based on Distance and not flat fare unlike earlier. There is saving of about 200-300 per month you take out pass

As more people will know about the buses will again run full. Already seeing a lot of old passengers who had taken to cars return back on my AS4 route today. They have started a new AC feeder route from Bandra station to BKC Diamond bourse which to my surprise was running full last evening. At Rs.15 its totally worth it

Mumbai cruise terminal to get int’l look, turn recreation hotspot

Quote:
MUMBAI: With the number of cruise liners berthing in the city on the rise, the Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT) has come up with a Rs 150 crore plan to revamp the international cruise terminal with retail, restaurants and entertainment facilities. What's more, the terminal may become a hotspot for Mumbaikars with its recreation zone being open to non-passengers also.

A senior MBPT official said, "We plan to build an international cruise terminal in a ground + 2 structure. It will have 2 lakh sqft area. We want to promote cruise related tourism in a big way." The present cruise terminal is spread across 35,000 sq ft.
As many as 37 cruise ships arrived in Mumbai between October 15 and May 16. For the next season, MBPT has already received confirmation for 57.
"We are preparing the Detailed Project Report and the new terminal should be ready in a couple of years," the official added.
MBPT wants to ensure that people who do not travel by cruise also use the facilities in the terminal. "There will a lot of retail outlets for shopping, besides restaurants, art gallery and entertainment and recreation zones," the official added.
He said, "We will open up the terminal's non-passenger area for others too when cruise ships are not berthed." MBPT feels that there is a dearth of retail space in South Mumbai. The location of the Mumbai Cruise Terminal is optimal for such controlled retail environment. "Now, revenue can be generated through out the year," the official added.

mumbai-to-get-its-water-transport-system-in-place-soon

Now how soon is that . I wonder if this MP has an idea about the no of bridges on the Thane creek which have to be rebuilt for the ferries to sail through

http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report-mumbai-to-get-its-water-transport-system-in-place-soon-2240539
Over the past few years, Thane and central suburbs has seen an increase in population, although the transport system has failed to keep pace with it. Hence, water transport system has been explored as an alternative to better the lives of commuters who are solely dependent on railways.

Last week, Thane MP Rajan Vichare, Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde, TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal met union transport minister to initiate the Kalyan-Thane-Mumbai water transport route. On the said occasion, Jaiswal made a presentation of developing water transport on the said route in two phases.

In the first phase, the water transport on the routes: Kalyan-Thane, Thane-Vasai and Thane-Mira Bhayandar road will be developed. While Thane-Mumbai and Thane-Navi Mumbai routes will be developed in the second phase.

"In the past few years, there has been a tremendous increase in population in Diva, Dombivli, Kalyan, Badlapur and Ambernath region. But they are still dependent on railways for transportation and thus, commuters have to face hardships in over-crowded trains on a daily basis," said Shinde. "In such a scenario, water transport will provide quick relief to passengers and lighten the burden of railways, which is not able to expand itself due to infrastructural issues," he added.

After the presentation, Shinde said that the minister had assured them of a quick action in starting the water transportation services.

SOON, WATER TRANSPORT TO LINK MUMBAI WITH THANE

Quote:
he project aims at reducing burden on the already-congested train and road networks.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has proposed developing water transport to help commuters skip congested roads and overcrowded trains. Officials have recommended constructing jetties all along Mumbai's western and eastern coasts to use water transport to connect Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.

According to TMC officials, 15 million passengers in the state's coastal districts use the 35 rivers and creeks spread across the 720 km coastline for inland water transport every year. The plan, which has been approved by the Ministry of Shipping, is already being put into action. Work on the first phase has begun and potential routes based on zonal interactions have been identified.

Mumbai Mirror is in possession of the design of the jetties and the facilities that will be provided. "In phase one, Vasai-Mira- Bhyander-Thane-Bhiwandi- Kalyan will be considered. The Thane route alone will be cover 25 nautical miles in 70 minutes, and will include a transport hub and jetties at seven locations. 13,500 passengers are expected to use this route every day," said TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal.

The second phase will link Thane and Mumbai through water ways. The first stop will be at Saket, Thane and the final stop will be Gateway of India, south Mumbai, with Mandala and Trombay as stops along the way. Phase three will focus on Saket-Vashi-Karvenagar and Central Business District sector 11.

"This development in inland water transport in Thane has numerous advantages, including a reduction in fuel consumption and a decrease in air pollution. This will also reduce the traffic, reducing travel time and create more employment opportunities for those providing water transport services," said Sunil Chavan, Additional Municipal commissioner, Thane Municipal Corporation.

Mumbai: Now, government to introduce multi-modal railway corridors

Quote:
The city’s overburdened lifeline, the local train, could receive some relief as the state government has decided to introduce multi-modal railway corridors. Railway officials said that there will be a road network running parallel along the CST-Panvel and Bandra-Virar elevated rail lines. However, there is no clarity yet on whether there will be revision in the plans for elevated rail corridors to accommodate the road network as well.

During yesterday’s meeting with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, CM Devendra Fadnavis discussed the possibility of having a road network running parallel to the proposed elevated rail lines. The Indian Railways have proposed the Bandra-Virar and CST-Panvel corridors, whose feasibility reports have also been prepared. The state has decided to go ahead with the corridor connecting both central and western suburbs with the island city. In addition to this, the Niti Aayog has approved the Virar-Vasai-Panvel suburban rail corridor.

“The multi-modal corridor will include road and rail that will connect the suburbs with Mumbai. This was much needed as the burden was falling on the local trains, which are operating at the fullest,” said a railway official.
Now, the state has proposed having roads running parallel to these rail networks all through the same alignment. The heavy vehicular traffic is already causing delays for Mumbaikars and an alternative route is the only way out.
MMRDA’s corridor in limbo
Even as the state government proposes a multi-modal corridor for the railways, a similar project of the MMRDA to connect Virar with Alibaug has been in the planning stage since 2012, but there hasn’t been much progress. Over a year ago, the land acquisition procedure was started. The 126 km-long corridor requires 1,250 hectare of land. While MMRDA has started the documentation process with urban development department, the actual land acquisition has not started yet. The project costs over Rs 1,000 crore and MMRDA will be constructing the project in phases. The first phase will se a 79 km-construction from Navghar to Chirner.

BEST did the right thing with the fare reduction. Next step should be getting better buses.
Hopefully the Starbus fleet should turn its fortunes around.
