which would be no doubt filled if they get to the bundesliga... you don't build stadiums for tournaments, tournaments just give you an excuse to build stadiums...

why not?

It gets filled for concerts, it got filled for the 3. liga promotion game last season. It will get filled if they get back to the bundesliga. Fortuna are a big club, that play in a big city, aiming low would handicap them in the future. If they only sell the lower tier seats in the 2. Bundesliga then atmosphere won't be harmed. Stadiums like the san siro could learn from that!

Does this stadium have any trouble with pitch growth?

it's planned to rise the capacity to 54,000. by transforming some seat areas into terraces. it's an all-seater at the moment, but fans are requesting terracing since years. it seems, next season their wish will be satisfiyed.

to avoid pitch invasions. and the groups which most likely would do that are those on the terraces, that's why there are still fences there.

How likely are they though?

If fans invade punish them after the event not before. Close the terracing for a game or two, that would stop them.

I swear in Germany you trust people to pay their train fair with no ticket barriers but you don't trust them not to run on a football pitch?

It's the fences at the front that caused hillsborough in England, of course you limit how many people can get on your terraces (unlike in England where it was as much as 3.5:1!) but still what happens in the event of a crush at the front?

Oh and they look ugly and are the only things that ruin the stadiums!

Not to be critical or anything!

Building a stadium solely for a single month in the lime light is rubbish reason anyway. The city of Düsseldorf, however, built it as as expansion of their exhibition centre. It never depended on the World Cup or the league status of Fortuna.
