The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is a future-oriented research and policy center committed to energy and environmental exploration and analysis. It is located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the energy center of the world.

KAPSARC’s state-of-the-art campus will be located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital and largest city.

Headquartered in an iconic complex near King Khalid International Airport designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the Center is the first thing visitors see upon arriving in Riyadh and the last they glimpse before leaving, even from the air—keeping KAPSARC’s important work at the forefront of the minds of all who visit the Kingdom.

The Building

KAPSARC’s iconic Center is set to re-define Riyadh’s architectural landscape with Zaha Hadid Architects as the driving force behind its design. The modular and adaptive nature of the building gives rise to various facilities including an energy library, meeting areas, gardens, terraces and more.

A cellular structure of crystalline forms will soon emerge from the desert landscape—the iconic Center being built for KAPSARC by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects. Composed of a network of three-dimensional, six-sided cells with many junctions and bonds, its design is based on the concept of connection. The modular, adaptive building will be made up of a series of shaded outdoor spaces, courtyards, entrances, meeting areas, indoor gardens, corridors, underground tunnels and roof terraces.

The architecture is intended to foster meetings, both planned and serendipitous, and the collision of thoughts, ideas and cultures of people all brought together for a specific purpose. In the hub of the complex, the Research Center, KAPSARC’s multiple research teams will interact in surroundings conceived to accommodate working methods and technologies that may shift over time. The Library, a comprehensive facility that acknowledges the importance of electronic information in the modern age, will offer a program hall for exhibitions and briefings as well as space for a permanent collection of books and reference materials. The Conference Center will be outfitted with a large multipurpose hall and a variety of smaller halls and meeting rooms. The Center will also feature a residential compound and recreation facilities for in-Kingdom and expatriate researchers and their families.

The Center’s construction will employ a variety of sustainable building techniques and advanced technologies. Arranged to temper the light and heat of the desert environment, and utilize wind to cool facades and outdoor spaces, the design will bathe interiors in carefully controlled, soft light. Building and landscaping will work with the dry-land ecosystem but take advantage of seasonal breezes to offer temperate zones and improve pedestrian comfort. Energy-efficient light sources such as LEDs, powered outside the grid using photovoltaic elements, will give the landmark a crystal-like nighttime identity

«أرامكو» تتسلم أربعة عروض لبناء مركز الملك عبدالله للدراسات البترولية




الجزيرة - الرياض :

تسلمت شركة الزيت العربية السعودية «أرامكو السعودية» عروضاً من أربع شركات على الأقل لعقد بناء المباني الرئيسية لمركز الملك عبدالله للدراسات البترولية بالرياض، حسبما أوردت نشرة «ميد» نقلاً عن مصدر قريب من المشروع، ووفقاً لموقع أرقام تشمل قائمة الشركات المقدمة للعروض كلاً من شركة «بيطور للإنشاءات» التركية، و»دريك آند سكل إنترناشنال»، مقرها دبي، و»السيف الهندسية» و»سعودي أوجيه» السعوديتين، ويغطي العقد بناء المباني الرئيسية في المركز بما فيها مركز الأبحاث والمكتبة وقاعة للمؤتمرات ومرافق التجزئة علماً أن تصميمها جاء عن طريق مكتب زها حديد الهندسي، مقره العاصمة البريطانية لندن، وكانت شركة «أرامكو السعودية» قد أرست في شهر مايو الماضي عقداً لشركة «أس كيه للهندسة والإنشاءات» الكورية الجنوبية لبناء مجمع سكني تابع للمركز المذكور بتكلفة تقدر بـ 1.9 مليار ريال (506 ملايين دولار)، ويقع المشروع على بعد 8 كيلومترات جنوباً من مطار الملك خالد الدولي علماً أن المشروع كان يفترض طرحه كعقد واحد إلا أن شركة «أرامكو السعودية» قررت لاحقاً تجزئة العقد إلى حزمتين الأولى تتعلق بالمباني السكنية والثانية المباني الرئيسية يضمها مجمع واحد تصل مساحته إلى 466 ألف متر مربع، حسب النشرة، يذكر أن شركة «أرامكو السعودية» كانت قد أطلقت المشروع في مارس عام 2009 ضمن خطة استثمارية تبلغ قيمتها 60 مليار دولار، التي تشمل تطوير مرافق الإنتاج في الحقول البرية والبحرية.
