GOTHENBURG - Ullevi Stadium (43,200)
Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg)
Ullevi was used for several matches in EURO 92, including the final. It also hosted the 1995 World Championships in Athletics, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup finals in 1983 and 1990, and the UEFA Cup final in 2004. image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/47553876@N07/4364263522/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/66203913@N00/2698923318/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/phototouring/212029211/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/decathlon/38814171/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/decathl...n/photostream/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/tasoska...is/4476878807/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/gertcha/2783387927/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/gertcha/2784240476/ Last edited by pawel19-87; June 22nd, 2010 at 08:12 PM. |

oh i hate this staduim with passion , i can honestly say i have never seen such an ugly stadium !! the pressbox , seat color everything is just yuck !! to me it sets the standard for uglyness and is what every stadium should aspire not to be, i think it's a disgrace that this piece of crap is the largest stadium in my country ... luckily not for long though ...
hope i didnt personally offend anyone , i just REALLY hate this stadium |

![]() Still it remains a legendary stadium for Sweden and even Europe. It hosted world cup games (1985 World Cup) and lots of concerts in the past 40-50 years. So lots of history there. I, personally, have great memories from this stadium, as i've played in the famous kid's football cup, "Gothia" here, some 20 years ago. (i quit football a long time ago, in case you're wondering if i'm a famous player )In my opinion it would have been a better idea to renovate this stadium, instead of building a new one (Swedbank Arena). |

i love this stadium, kinda always liked it. i love the seat colours and the design of the stadium. so many new stadiums are just round bowls with no character, almost follow a template. this stadium still looks good IMO. def one of my "older" type stadiums.

Isn't Swedebank Arena in Stockholm anyway?
This stadium is mostly known now for hosting some athletics tournaments, right?

One of the greatest moments in sport took place in this stadium. Yep, the legend that is Jonathan Edwards breaking the triple jump world record not once, but twice. Great memories.

It was especially build for the world cup in 1958 where Brazil, England and Soviet Union played their group matches in group 4.
West Germany and France played for third place at this stadium. At the European championship in 1992 it hosted matches in group B with teams like Netherlands, Scotland, Germany and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States aka. former Soviet Union) It also hosted the legendary semifinal between Denmark and the Netherlands but most importantly the final between Denmark and Germany ![]() So to say that this stadium is best known of hosting athletics tournaments is just disrespectful for this stadiums history. |

Ullevi will be the host of a friendly game between FC Barcelona and Manchester United on August 8th! According to Göteborgsposten tickets will be on sale 09:00 on tuesday, but i can't find any ticketing information either on GotEvent or on Ticnet.se. This is a really big event, which hopefully will give both Gothenburg and Ullevi a boost. Exciting!

According to Göteborgsposten, extra stands will be added in order to achieve a bigger capacity than the current of 43,200. According to Göteborgsposten there will be room for "about 50,000" spectators, both standing and seated. GotEvent says the capacity will be 48,000.

I don't like this stadium either the way it looks today.
The shape of the bowl is very logic and very modern, although the disproportion between the stands is too big to be called elegant imo. The roof is the main problem though. Little is needed to transform this stadium it into a spectacular one, simply by extending the roof so all the seats are covered. The new extension must be transparant at all cost in order to conserve the existing roof shading created and intended by the original designer. Further, new seats and no boxes in between the tiers. The result would be amazing. |
