New Jersey by Rail

I'm starting a New Photo series called New Jersey by Rail , over the next year i will travel all of NJT lines and while on the train take pictures of the grit , grim , Urban Renewal , High Rises , Bridges and scenery of New Jersey.

The other day i traveled by Rail to 3 Cities and on 5 Trains. The First was was Westwood to Secaucus JCT , the Second was Secaucus JCT to Newark Penn, the third was the PATH Train form Newark Penn to Journal SQ (Jersey City) the fourth was PATH Train form Journal SQ - Hoboken Terminal & the Last was the Hoboken to Westwood. Sorry about the Glare and reflection , but i couldn't help that.

The pictures around Westwood Station remind me a lot of taking Metra through Winnetka and other northshore suburbs of Chicago. Or maybe it's just the snow on the ground!

The suburbs of New York City in New Jersey look a lot like Chicagoland. That is why I love Chicago so much. The whole region between NYC and Philadelphia in New Jersey is so much like Metro Chicago.

well actually I was disappointed about Hoboken this time. Lackawanna station looks rusty and like it is falling apart. only inside it is normal. outside - it looks like million years old with rusty girders all over the place. streets are not cleaned from snow properly. so to cross the street is a little ordeal. all along the rail road tracks there are lots of garbage. some old RR tracks are being kept in the middle of the city since they are "historic" though they halfway into the cobblestones pavement covered with some blacktop on top of it. many buildings look like trash - chipping paint and all.

So all in all- the city looks like it needs a very big effort to fix itself into normalcy. it is like an abandoned place today.
