Looks like the hotel Grand Chancellor is gonna go!!!! i stayed on the 23rd floor of this hotel back in 97. The tower has started to sag and sink on one side. "its 26 floors high" scary stuff. They have evacuated the surrounding area!!!

Thanks, heartbreaking to see the pics and know that many of these buildings no longer exist and that they have also claimed many lives

Yeah, I think that it is safe to assume that it will be pulled down

No I won't go back to Christchurch for the next year or more, let things settle down and give the citizens time to rebuild

It's sad to hear this beautiful city has got its second earthquake. I can only imagine how it is to live with constant fear of aftershocks and new earthquakes. But I think the city will recover.

It's really incredible sad what happened to Christchurch. Let's hope they'll recover from the earthquake as soon as possible and manage to rebuild the city.

I will fly to New Zealand for the first time in 8 days and travel all across the country for 5 weeks in a rental car.

Originally Christchurch was scheduled as my last stop and I wanted to spend 2 days there, but now I guess I will simply return the car at the CHC airport and stay at the airport hotel before I fly home the next day.

Thanks ... I hope that it is sooner rather than later, just in time for Christchurch's grand unveiling

Cheers mate, it must be horrific. It was a very poignant day yesterday as the entire country stood still for 2 minutes at 12:51 to mark the week anniversary of the earthquake - needless to say that most of us were in tears
