In a German rail forum, people are very angry about the new schedule as of next month. Passenger traffic to and from Serbia has been reduced to apparently just one train per day. This seems particularly irresponsible after the area around Vinkovci has seen large investments for upgrading. This also makes the prospect of such large scale investments as proposed on the previous page seem unrealistic or just to serve the aim of spending a few billion to construction firms rather than truely establishing East to West corridors through Croatia. How do you as people who know the local politics see the contradiction between potential future investments and de facto minimization of international services?

They are joining the EU now, so thought it was time to cut cross-border services I guess.

You clearly don't know much about our dear national rail operator, HŽ ( Croatian Railways )

the problem is that Croatian Railways started to demand fees for international trains operating on its railroads. for instance, Croatian Railways pay 960.000€ annualy to Deutsche Bahn for operatin train 498/499 to München. Croatian Railways demanded 700.000€ from Serbian Railways for some trains, but they have refused it.
the same thing happened between Hungarian Railways and Serbian Railways about train 342/343 Beograd - Budapest.
similar thing happened last year when Italian Railways demanded large amounts for oeprating train Budapest - Venezia.

The train is a bit louder, but it's nothing that could not handle a few hours of driving in it.

I think that this problem can only be solved at the table with a conversation between the leading men in the railways of countries where this problem is concerned. If no agreement is reached, it will still come up with new problems.

Same crap as our railways, but they are still interesting. I think trains could run a bit faster between Zagreb and the Slovenian border (Savski Marof), but at least it's a short distance. You have some nice trains, like ICN, but even ordinary IC Zagreb-Rijeka is great. There are too many kids between Karlovac and Metlika though.
