Thats the story of India, Contracts are been awarded to people with no knowledge.
They dig up places, finish the work and dont care to clean their shits away.
In this case they needed to make a full pedestrian friendly way for people to do their shopping properly or go to restaurants.
What the fuck our country is doing?its been so fucking long that we have got independence, our politicians go to all these foreign countries but never learn anything from there.
All these freaking fat illiterate bastards are controlling our country.
No respect for a common citizen of India. They live or die, who cares?
many people die every hour in road accidents, without food and God knows what but government is busy doing all these scams.
I am really frustrated, more frustrated to see the condition of our country at the moment.
From 9% growth rate to 5.5%. Now dont start bashing my post by saying me anti-Indian.I am a proud Indian but more frustrated.

This being the CP thread, here goes:

Heart of the city: A central business district was part of the original plan of British Imperial Capital. The British wanted a new Capital, which could serve as shopping, entertainment and fine dining hub. The construction of Connaught Place — designed by Robert Tor Russell — was started in 1929. The inspiration came from The Royal Crescent in the city of Bath in England. Photos courtesy: New Delhi: Making of A Capital, Roli Books

I went by CP some hrs. ago today itself.

It's pretty dug up, a-work-in-progress, but just like the rest of India, CP is also becoming more inclusive rather than snooty exclusive like in the days of yore.

Newer McDonald's, Pizza Hut's, Haldiram's, Mother Dairy or something like so, Cafe Coffee Day's, Costa Coffee and many lallu-panju, local type joints ... and since last week Starbucks, the real thing, check:

Hardly Harrod's, Bally or the Waldorf Astoria.

Connaught Place revamp misses deadline

TOI: 01-MAY-2013
Quote:
Connaught Place redevelopment project has missed the revised deadline once again. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had set April 30 as the deadline to finish the surface development work in Connaught Place, but the work is still going on in K,L and G blocks.

On Tuesday, the civic agency held a meeting to review the progress. Engineers India Limited (EIL) has been given a week's time to wrap up the work, according to sources. "A majority of the work has been completed. In the last two months, a lot of work has been done. Not much work related to surface development is left and it should be over in the next four-five days,'' said Vikas Anand, secretary, NDMC.

Though EIL has started dense-carpeting of radial roads, sources say, it will take close to 15 days to complete the work. When TOI visited the area on Tuesday, construction work was still going on in G, K and L blocks.

"The facade work of Regal and other blocks was to be completed before April 30. But the work is still going on. In outer circle, the parking spaces are broken and the green areas are not maintained. Debris and garbage are still lying on the roadsides," said Pawan Mehta, a trader.

NDMC officials say that it will take at least 15 to 20 days for entire surface development work to finish. As for middle circle, construction work of toilets and pavements is still going on in the area. Also, a lot of work in the back lanes is still pending. EIL has to shift all the services underground. "It is a massive exercise. It will take time as we have to shift live cables without causing much inconvenience to traders. It have to do it systematically,'' said an EIL official.

With June 30 as the final deadline for the project, traders want NDMC to reconsider its decision regarding blocking of huge parking spaces on both sides of the radial roads. "They have left huge parking spaces on radial roads. This will result in massive traffic jams once the work is over,'' said AtuL Bhargava, president of New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA).

Meanwhile, no decision was taken regarding the two subways at Panchkuian Road which were scrapped in February this year by NDMC.
