The DPF is building a multistory parking at Baba Karak Singh Road just next to Connaught Place police station. The work is going on a very fast pace. The building is already up 5 floors. |

Illu, your pics are not showing up.
CP renovation is relatively much less important project when compared to other major projects like metro, airport, road projects, stadiums, etc., that's why it doesn't gets much attention and hence very few updates.

Thats a shame, shopping centres are just as important.
Visitors will go sightseeing as well as shopping & you also want something nice for the residents too. |

CCTV cameras is a good idea. Some of the the subways are more than just begar infested. They look spooky.
In 1998, I paid a visit to a costume jewelery shop in Palika Bazar, which has become another ghetto in CP. I have been buying jewelery to be used as token of gifts for friends and acquaintances. I sat in front of the counter and sat my camera bag beside me. Some one walked off with my bag. I had quite a bit of money in there, as well as my passport and my ticket. I had not been able to deposit the money in the bank as by the time arrived in CP on a Saturday. The shopkeeper and the neighbouring shops sent people out fanning various exits. Within minutes, my bag was found abandoned in the subway at Parliament Street intersection with Connaught Circus. By the time I arrived there, people had gathered around, and someone had called the bomb squad, thinking it contained a bomb. One of the guys who owned a shop ( I think in N Block) in Connaught Circus across from the LIC building was brave enough to open the bag and told me later on, he was wondering how to contact the owner of the bag. All my money, a few thousand dollars in a mixture of currencies was gone but the passport and the airline ticket was there. Of course once the police got involved, it was a big hassle to get my bag back from them as they wanted something from me. CCTV would certainly prevent some crime. Have there been any reports of crime in the subways. I wouldn't be surprised if there were drug dealing going on there. FYI. People, including journalists have become accustomed to using outer circle and inner circle to refer to Connaught Circus and Connuaght Place. Connaught Place and and Connaught Circus are the original terms used in postal addresses. I have no idea what the original name for the service road in the middle was. Blocks are numbered in sequence starting from Block A in Canuaght Place adjacent to the radial road that connects with Irwin Road. and goes on to Connaught Circus once all the blocks Connaught Place have been designated. There are no, I, J and O blocks. The regal Building has the exclusive hopur of being the only building on the left side of Connaught Circus in such manner, P block, which is also the last block. DO you know there used to be two-way traffic in Connaught Circus? I do not recall if there was ever two way traffic in Connaught Place, popularly called inner circle now. CP does need rennovation. It had deteriorated a lot over the last few decades, as Delhi's population grew. It will be nice to have CCO look cleaner. Traffic will continue to be a problem despite the metro. I hope the underground parking system has some kind of controls to know the available space remaining for the parking. Is it free parking?

I meant, when car enters the parking, there is automatic barrie and a ticket vending machine, as soon as u get the ticket, the barrier lifts and u get inside. before u have to get out, u pay ur parking fees, with the card and then drive towards the exit. At exit, there is a ticket machine and automatic barrier, as u put the card back in machine( reading that u have paid), the automatic barrier lifts and u drive out.

thanks suv for the news item. utility tunnel seems to be a very good idea. with enough room inside for men and equipment i am sure maintenance will be easy , so will be adding new lines.
they should replicate this in other parts of city as well

This is indeed a good idea, but 250 crore for 1.2 km tunnel ? It looks like a simple cut and cover job. Also, if this is a recent photo, will it be ready by CWG? Sorry for being doubting Thomas.
