Bruges (Brugge), Belgium

There were not too many comments on my photos from Antwerp but let me give you a second chance:P

Bruges (Brugge) - the capital of West Flanders and one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium

Belfort (Belfry) - view from hotel window

Lindemans Lambic beer

Belgium is a kingdom of beer - sour Lambic with cork

Koffieboontje - located just next to the Market Square. Good breakfast, poor heating in winter!

Belfry (building and model)

Model of the Belfort and Valentine chocolate fair

Market Square

West facade of the Market Square

Building at the Market Square

West facade of the Market Square

Belfort

Lace - one of typical Belgian products

Famous Belgian chocolate

Stadhuis (City Hall)

Heilig Bloed Basiliek - Basilica of Holy Blood; Blood of Christ kept in ampule

Basilica of Holy Blood facade

Blinde Ezelstraat (Blind Donkey Street)

Canal cruises are very popular, even during winter

to be continued, if comments appear..

Non-standard rowhouse near Kon. Astridpark (Queen Astrid Park)

Typical residential buildings in the city; each rowhouse is owned by a family

This one has no windows..

Streets are narrow. Some of them are one way only.

It was cold, slightly below 0 degrees

to be continued..

One of few modern structures in the centre, hidden in the courtyard

Backyards often have direct access to the water

Sometimes there is “summerhouse” over the water

Mosquitos are a real plague of the city; winter is the only season when Bruges is free of them

Some houses have religious symbols; Flanders and Dutch share common language but they have different religious beliefs - Flanders are mostly Catholic

Some new buidlings have historic attributes but most are modern ones. They share the size of older heighbours.

Even such small backyard is valuable here

You can rest in your own garden in such dense city

Unique building

Even such small streets have their own names and are well marked on the city map

Buidling on the right is probably quite new..

Another narrow street

Belfort as seen from distance

This one looks like it might collapse..

The last part from Bruges:

Market Square

In Belgium you can be sure you will get some chocolate with coffee. I have also noticed cafes are quite inexpensive when compared to other prices..

Finally we got some sun..

Almost like Venice

City plan made of lace. Only few tourists have noticed that..

Sculpture by Michelangelo

Old brewery

Chocolate, waffels, pancakes are all very popular..

House built on a dam..

I like this kind of housing..

One of minor canals..

One of churches in Bruges

Modern building in the centre

View towards Market Square

Some are 'neo'gothic, dating from the 19th century, but they do add up to the atmosphere of the city.
Hope you enjoyed, in spite of the cold. The photos are very nice.
