The old chapel for the first locale of the Iglesia ni Cristo at Isla de Punta, Santa Ana, Manila. The first generation of kapilyas were made of light indigenous materials like sawali, nipa and bamboo. The second generation kapilyas, to which this structure belongs, were of sturdier materials, wood and galvanized iron. This building has been restored and is now a museum.

It's nice to know that the first Iglesia ni Cristo building still survives. This is an important part of Philippine history.

Is there a historical marker and is it open for the public? By the way, why are the INC places of worship called a kapilya? Is itcalled the same in English, like a chapel?

This isn't the first chapel of the INC. As I've mentioned, the first chapels were made of light materials that easily wore off. The very first chapel built from the ground up was in Tondo.

Being the "panganay na lokal", Punta in Sta. Ana (registered to the Philippine government in 1914) initially held their congregational worship services in the houses of the brethren. The first was the Ramos residence. They moved into the bigger, Morte residence when their number couldn't be accommodated anymore.

To properly serve the needs of the growing congregation, the semi-concrete structure above was then constructed in 1937 by the INC's oldest congregation, Punta. It served as the nucleus of its religious activities for many decades. In 1990 a new concrete house of worship was built just a stone's throw away from the old chapel and consecrated for the use of the Punta brethren.

In the year 2000, the old chapel was reopened as a museum and gallery for some of the church's memorabilia. Yes, there is a marker in front of it and yes, it is open to the public. There is also an INC main museum and it is along Commonwealth Avenue in front of the Templo Central.

"Kapilya" was taken from the Spanish "capilla" and would describe the humble beginnings of the INC worship edifices. The term stuck and is used by INC members to refer to these structures regardless of size. Members refer to the main worship building along Commonwealth Avenue as Templo Central (or just Templo) and not kapilya to distinguish it from other edifices of the church. I also hear the expression "bahay sambahan" (house of worship), "gusaling sambahan" (worship building) or "dakong sambahan" (place for worship) being used to refer to the INC's worship edifices.

The Locale Congregation of SSS Village

The locale congregation of SSS Village in Marikina was formerly known as the Cupang congregation when the members residing at the boundaries of Marikina, Antipolo and Cainta used to hold their worship services at a quaint wooden structure in Sulucan, Cupang, Antipolo. It was renamed SSS Village when in 1989, its permanent house of worship along Sapphire Street, SSS Village, Concepcion, Marikina was dedicated to God.

The house of worship was among the first batch of INC chapels to be fully made using CAD technology.

Some of the designs seems to be Art Deco inspired.

Yes, that is true. Regarding the similarity in the profuse use of geometrical patterns as embellishments, I'm referring to the fact that both religions do away with human representations for the purpose of worship. Perhaps to make up for what they cannot have or avoid having in their places of worship, both religions use other means to decorate and beautify their sacred structures.

The INC's castle-like house of worship at the edge of scenic Sampaloc Lake in the City of San Pablo.

This is reposted from Vince Rilian's at the Laguna thread.

The INC Baguio City house of worship along Magsaysay Avenue... It was finished and consecrated to the Lord in 1956. With a seating capacity of 1,700, the house of worship, also serves as the center of activities for the whole of the Benguet Ecclesiastical District.

Then...
