The new mayor of Curitiba, Rafael Greca de Macedo, is analysing two new projects for Curitiba transportation system.

The first project is an introduction of hybrid-electric bendy buses in all BRT lines and a new transit tunnel under Curitiba Central Business Area from Passeio Público Park to Japan Square (Praça do Japão). This project is called CIVI and it was developed by Volvo and local companies.

The other project is the introduction of NTL (Translohr) in Curitiba, replacing some BRT lines. This purpose is supporting by Alstom and a local company. In Curitiba, Translohr trams would have six sections and capacity to carry 358 passengers.

There was also a project of a Chinese-build all-electric buses corridor operated by a drivers' cooperative. But, this purpose was rejected by City Hall.

Mayor Greca de Macedo discarded the subway project. He said Curitiba hadn't money to built a subway due to Brazilian financial crisis.

Another city where Alstom is trying to push a superbly bad project Translohr.

Trying to tie Curitiba and it's money to French government while being the only supplier of this technical horror called Translohr.

Curitiba needs modern light rail not an obsolete limited unchangable thing called Translohr.

Original introducer of this horrible thing Translohr the city of Clermont Ferrand will get rid of this thing in 2030, before that they will build second line but this will be normal tram.

I believe the Curitiba Government will accept only the CIVI project due its costs. Volvo has a factory in Curitiba and bus lanes can be easily renovated for CIVI buses. Moreover, the current "tube-stations" can be used on CIVI system.

The only large work of CIVI project will be the constrution of a 4 Km-long transit tunnel across Curitiba downtown. This tunnel will follow the current bus lane and it will be built on cut-and-cover method. The bus lane will be converted into a bike path.

A new BRT line for Curitiba was announced today: the "Coletora 3 Axle". Part of this BRT corridor is already in operation (Circular Sul) between Hauer and Portão.

The BRT is great for some outer suburban lines, but they need to upgrade to Light Rail on many of the densely built-up areas. DON'T USE TRANSLOHR!!!! There is not enough weight on the guide rail causing it to derail quite frequently, and it is extremely limited in terms of the variety of new vehicles available.
