Longest 2x3+ lane highway route in your country

3 and above lanes highways are common everywhere in the world (in the US often 5+) inside cities, less so in interurban routes.

I measured the longest 3+ lane highway route (a continous string of highways with 3 or more lanes for each direction) in Italy and it's 407 km long. Here is the map:

I am curious, which one is the longest in your country?.

Not yet. There is a small 2x2 section between the Kamener Kreuz and exit Hamm-Rhynern of 10 kilometers. It is to be completed this year. Then A2 will be 2x3 all the way.

There are long-term plans to widen A7 between Hamburg and Hattenbach all the way to 2x3, and A5 as well towards Switzerland, which would make it possible to drive from Lübeck to Basel on 2x3 or more. That is 870 kilometers.

Actually I found out there is a longer 3 lane route in Italy, A4+A1+A14 from Turin to Rimini. 457 km

Construction has already started for a 140km extension

Total future lenght (2014): 587 km

actually, it will be even longer:
look here

but it is not the most logical route to come from Bologna to Torino, more logical is via A21

The extension is not planned anymore to Pedaso but Porto S. Elpidio

It's true the most logical route is via A21, however it is a continous and rather logical route you may have to do for several reasons

I-75 from northern Florida to Chattanooga, TN is mostly 3 lanes each direction. There is still some expansion under construction in southern Georgia.

FL-143 miles
GA-will be 355 miles
TN-1 mile
=499 miles (803 Kilometers)

Interesting!

For The Netherlands I think it is currently this stretch from Breda to Leiden on the A16-A20-A13-A4: 85KM

By the end of 2010 it should be the stretch from Zaandam to 's-Hertogenbosch on the A8-A10-A2: 105KM

By 2013 this should be extended further south to Valkenswaard: 151 KM

And if you are not very smart, or just feel like a drive, it'll be possible to do the A16-A15-A20-A13-A4-A10-A2 from Breda to Valkenswaard by 2014: 278KM

Plus it continues north as 3 lanes to Glasgow, albeit under the name M74 once over the border. But it's the same road.

Your description is rather misleading. What you mean are roads of at least 6 lanes. 6 not 3.

I'm too lazy to post a map, but, yes, it's like that now except for completion of the last sections between Valdosta and Tifton, GA.

Actually, I-75 itself isn't six lanes for the entire route-- it's only four from I-16 to I-475 north in Macon. But the logical route through the Macon area is via I-475, which is all six lanes except for a very short section right before the junction with I-75 on the north end. Also, the interchange between I-75 and I-475 is being reconstructed to provide three lanes on both freeways, but I'm not sure if it's finished yet.

EDIT: Two years ago I did features about I-75 in southern Georgia. Perhaps you'll find them interesting:

In France the longest one currently is between Beaune and Marseille, approximately 465 km (except for a short section in Lyon). A part of that motorway south of Beaune is actually 4+3 in rural areas, which is rather rare anywhere in the world.

In the near future, there will be a continuous succession of 2x3 and 2x4 motorways from the Belgian border near Lille to the Spanish border near Perpignan. That will be a route 1,100 km long with 2x3 and 2x4 all the way. The map below shows with orange thick lines the motorways that are going to be enlarged to 2x3 (blue thick lines show the 2x2 motorways that are either u/c or planned in the near future).

Uhm...I know there are several ways to call them. Anyway here in Italy we call them 3 lanes (or 3+1). For each direction of course

does somebody know about Spain? i think it should be AP7. as far as i know it currently begins at Vidreres in north and ends in Salou in south (about 180 km), but they are working on widening. does somebody know if they have widened some more sections on this stretch?

Spanish traffic volumes are very low outside the bigger cities, especially the motorways on the Meseta which barely carry over 30,000 AADT. There are even Autovías with less than 5,000 AADT.

thanks! do you have any idea if there are other long routes in the US with 6 lanes? maybe in the northeast where so many big cities are aligned in one route?

anyway as I said before please consider a logical route and a perfectly continous route...small holes in the route means...no route

PS: Actually there is an even longer route than the one I mentioned in my previous post, it's the route from the Belgian border near Lille to the city of Tours in the Loire Valley. It's 475 km long, fully 2x3 or 2x4.
