The Kingdom of Belgium signs the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015

An area of 2,717 square meters in which addressing the issue of sustainable consumption, giving space to the latest creations of chocolatiers and collaborating in thematic itinerary of the Cocoa Cluster. This is the double commitment the Kingdom of Belgium is planning for the 2015 World Expo. The project was explained by Commissioner General for the Belgian Pavilion Leo Delcroix, who this morning has signed the participation contract with the Sole Commissioner and CEO of the Expo 2015 Company Giuseppe Sala. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Rome, His Excellency Mr Vincent Mertens de Wilmars, has attended the ceremony for the 46th document signed by the company organizing the Milan World Expo with the Official Participants.

In its pavilion, Belgium will develop the core theme of Expo Milano 2015, “Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life”, focusing on two fundamental human activities that characterize the transformation of nature - food production and food consumption. Therefore, “Our Food, Our World – Produce Responsibly, Consume Smartly” is the guiding theme which will be developed in the four structures composing the Belgian Pavilion: an area will be devoted to the Federal state, one to the Flemish Region, one the Walloon and one to Brussels.

Belgium intends to showcase the best practices and cutting-edge technologies that characterize the country’s pursuit of quality in the food production chain (from farm to fork) and to show the creativity of Belgian gastronomy. The latest outcomes in Belgian nutrition research, scientific and technological development for food safety and quality, innovation in food products and the importance of educating young people to adapt to more a healthy diet and to reduce food waste will also be illustrated.

Given the country’s extraordinary expertise in the chocolate industry, Belgium will also contribute to the Cocoa Cluster, demonstrating its long history and showcasing some masterpieces created by Belgian chocolatiers. However, more importantly, Belgian companies will show their commitment to ethical business practices and their fight against child labour in the production process of cocoa.

To give a second life to the pavilion, and facilitate its removal and reuse, recyclable materials will be employed in the construction. An efficient system, based on renewable and natural energy sources, will be designed to reduce energy consumption.

“I am very proud to sign the Belgium’s participation contract at Expo Milano 2015 – declared Leo Delcroix, General Commissioner of the Belgian Pavillion -. We greatly appreciate the theme, 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life', because it highlights issues that are of fundamental importance for each country, region and individual in the world. World Expos have always had a great impact on the life of citizens and on the development of the participating countries. In our pavilion the educational dimension will meet entertainment, to showcase the most innovative solutions to produce food in a sustainable manner and educate citizens to consume it in a smart way”.

“We are really satisfied by today’s signature. We have high expectations from Belgium – explained Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner for Expo Milano 2015 -: the issue of responsible production and consumption is one of the key elements of the debate the World Expo aims to promote among the Countries. The prominence that the pavilion will have within the site - near the West entrance – reflects the Belgian commitment to share their experience in scientific research on nutrition. We are positive this will stimulate the curiosity and interest of visitors”.

Hungary is the 53rd country to sign the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015, the next Universal Exposition, to be held in Milan from May 1st to October 31st 2015. So far a total of 128 countries have confirmed their presence at the worldwide event in Milan. The contract, which defines Hungary’s commitment at the Universal Exposition, was signed by Géza Szöcs, Commissioner General of Hungary for Expo Milano 2015, and by Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner and CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. The ceremony was also attended by the Consul General in Milan, István Manno. The ceremony was followed by a concert held by the Hungarian pianist Maestro Gergely Bogányi.

In its pavilion Hungary will develop its interpretation of the core theme of Expo Milano 2015 "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life". The guiding philosophy for the Hungarian participation will be the interaction between healthy food and healthy lifestyle, the guarantee of food security and the conservation of genetic diversity for future generations. Thanks to the Hungarian interpretation of the theme “From the purest sources”, the pavilion will mainly focus on three integrated topics: healthy traditions, water and heritage for the future.

The aim of the Hungarian participation at Expo Milano 2015 is to showcase Hungary’s GM-free production of indigenous plant and animal species, its conscious preservation of the land and its sustainable farming techniques. Hungary is also the empire of pure drinking water and thermal spas.

The Hungarian Pavilion will be made of natural, recyclable and light-transmitting materials. The shape and appearance of the building will be linked to the theme of Expo and to the specific concepts chosen by Hungary, reflecting the traditions and culture of the country. Spring water and light will play crucial roles in the internal architecture of the pavilion and the building will occupy approximately half of the 1910 square metre area. The Pavilion will be a multi-storey building, in which there will be space for a Hungarian restaurant, for events, exhibitions, and small theatre performances.

“I am very proud to sign the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015 on behalf of my country” said General Commissioner of Hungary Géza Szocs. “We are aware of the profound impact that the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for life will have at a global level. It is our intention to raise global awareness about all the most important issues regarding sustainable nutrition”.

“Hungary's interpretation of the Expo Milano 2015 theme is perfect” said Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner and CEO of Expo 2015. “Indeed Hungary’s focus on healthy lifestyle and the need to ensure food security, together with the importance of preserving biodiversity for future generations are key issues of the Milan event. Hungary’s commitment to share its scientific experience will be very important in arousing visitor curiosity and awareness”.

he Sultanate of Oman signs the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015

Today the Sultanate of Oman signed the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015, the next Universal Exposition, to be held in Milan, Italy, from May 1st to October 31st 2015, and which will focus on the theme “Feeding the planet, energy for life”.

Oman has reserved a 2,790 square metre space and its pavilion will be built in a strategic position within the exhibition site, in front of one of the main entrances of the Expo venue. The contract, which defines Oman’s commitment at the Universal Exposition, was signed by the Commissioner General of the Oman Pavilion, H.E. Mohsin Al Balushi, and by the CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A., Giuseppe Sala. With this signature, Expo Milano 2015 has now signed 36 contracts, out of a total of 125 countries which have so far confirmed their participation.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Ambassador Said Nasser Mansoor AL-Sinawi AL-Harthy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Italy, and by Roberto Formigoni, Commissioner General of Expo Milano 2015. The ceremony was preceded by a presentation regarding Oman’s interpretation of the Expo core theme “The Sultanate of Oman: Heritage in Harvest. Harnessing the Sun, Sand & Sea”.

The management and distribution of hydrological resources is a top priority in a water-scarce country. The Pavilion will be an opportunity to show the world Oman’s unique heritage, the "sustainable harvest" of the earth and of the sea, thus revealing a millennium of practices and traditions. Indeed, the Sultanate of Oman has a unique history in the sustainable management of its scarce water resources in a particularly challenging climatic area. This is thanks to its ancient and complex irrigation system, the falaj, a system of canals which has provided the Country with a reliable supply of water for centuries. Oman is also one of the forerunners in the development of artificial reefs which provide an undersea garden of biodiversity both for fishing and aquaculture.

"Expo Milano 2015 is a global event which is eagerly awaited by the entire world” said Mohsin Al Balushi, Commissioner General of Oman’s Pavilion. “The distinguishing element of this Expo is the theme, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, a theme which concerns all the inhabitants of the world. Moreover, Expo Milano 2015 will be hosted by Italy, a nation known for its hospitality, and with whom Oman has a deep rooted friendly relationship. We really look forward to participating in this important exhibition".

"The fascinating experience of the Sultanate of Oman, in the field of sustainable agriculture in arid areas, will represent a very interesting variation on the development of the theme Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life” said Giuseppe Sala, CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. “Each country is asked to share its knowledge in order to help solve the food and environmental emergencies which are afflicting the planet. It will be very interesting to visit Oman’s pavilion in which its commitment to the sustainable use of the sun, the sand and the sea, using both modern and ancient techniques, will be displayed”

The Principality of Monaco signs the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015

Today the Principality of Monaco signed the participation contract of Expo Milano 2015, the next Universal Exposition, to be held in Milan from May 1st to October 31st 2015. The contract, which defines Monaco’s commitment at the Universal Exposition, was signed by H.E. Ambassador Robert Fillon, Commissioner General of Monaco for Expo Milano 2015, and by Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner and CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. With this signature, Expo Milano 2015 has now signed 59 contracts, out of a total of 129 countries which have so far confirmed their participation.

In its pavilion Monaco will develop its interpretation of the core theme of Expo Milano 2015 "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life". Thanks to the Monégasque interpretation of the theme “Excellence and Solidarity – A New Look at Feeding the Planet”, the pavilion will mainly focus on the importance of portraying International cooperation as a lever for a more equitable distribution of wealth and demonstrating that responsible governance is possible thanks to research and sustainable innovation.

Monaco has always strived to share its experience and its resources with developing countries and has made the fight against poverty a key focus of its foreign policy. In the field of food, the Monégasque Government has driven a large number of projects designed to improve access to water, to teaching farming techniques and to protecting biodiversity around the globe.

Monaco wishes to attract the widest possible audience in terms of cultural origins and age during Expo Milano 2015. The need to address the ailments of the planet implies taking urgent decisions and the Monaco Pavilion aims to stimulate this reaction in stakeholders, opinion leaders, citizens, young people, children and parents. Each of these groups has the possibility to take action in response to the important questions raised by the theme of Expo Milano 2015.

The Monaco Pavilion’s architecture will be bold. Recyclable construction materials will be used and the pavilion will be easy to dismantle and to recycle. The architecture of the building will also comprise vertical farming and rainwater collection.

“We are delighted to take part in Expo Milano 2015 because Italy is a country which is so close to Monaco both geographically and emotionally” said H.E. Ambassador Robert Fillon, Commissioner General of Monaco for Expo Milano 2015. “Moreover, the theme chosen by the organizers of this Universal Exposition is so near to our hearts. We are convinced that, despite the small size of our country, Monaco has something important to say in the field of sustainable nutrition. The main theme of the Principality's Pavilion will be solidarity, in order to demonstrate how prosperity, earned through the centuries, can be used to foster global solidarity and environmental sustainability”.

“A visible sign of the collaboration between the Principality of Monaco and Expo Milano 2015 is the Feeding Knowledge Programme which will be an important tool for fostering research and innovation in food security and building the legacy of Expo Milano 2015 in this field” said Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner and CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. “The Principality of Monaco is a major contributor to the International solidarity chain. It is for this reason that we are honoured to announce that His Serene Highness Prince Albert II has agreed to chair the International Jury which will select the "Best Sustainable Development Practices” of Expo Milano 2015.”

Napolitano: Expo 2015, extraordinary opportunity

“Expo Milano 2015 is an extraordinary opportunity for the development of Italy as a whole”. These are the words of encouragement and optimism expressed by the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, guest of honour at the “Verso Expo 2015” (Towards Expo 2015) conference which was held on July 7th at the Villa Reale in Monza. During his speech, President Napolitano did not fail to emphasise the strategic role that the World Exposition will play in "overcoming the crisis we are undergoing in the recession that is putting a strain on Europe". "I am here - he added - to pay testimony to the value of national unity which has its epicentre in Milan but which represents and involves the entire country. We want to put forward all the support that Italy is capable of giving - explained the president - to the development of a prolific cooperation between different continents and between the most developed regions and emerging regions in this globalised world."

So from Expo 2015 Italy recommences to look at the world thanks to the important and collective theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life." “Expo will be crucial. It will be the heart of the country's recovery - said Enrico Letta, the President of the Council of Ministers - commencing from the themes: they are connected to words such as research, innovation, food safety and they affect global scenarios that interest us, such as water resources, malnutrition and obesity. “The Prime Minister reiterated the Government's support for the success of the event: "In early September - the president added - we will be signing and launching the 2015 Agenda for all ministries ahead of the event. Expo will work if Expo is not for one but for all of us, for the whole country: it means everyone must be involved."

The meeting in Monza, organised to outline the Expo Milano 2015 project to the Head of State and to the Prime Minister, opened with the news of the "Quota131" accessions. The sole commissioner, Giuseppe Sala, announced the news: "With the accord of Greece and Burundi, Expo 2015 has met and exceeded the target of 130 participating countries, an objective which was the basis of our application dossier - said Sala - once again Italy can confirm its gravitation on the international scenario." The “Verso Expo 2015” (Towards Expo 2015) conference concluded a very important week for the development of the event in which the meeting with the Italian regions, on Monday, July 1st, and the Commission for the Coordination of activities related to Expo 2015 (COEM) on July 5th, were the main milestones. "The road ahead - said Sala - is certainly still a long one but this week marked a turning point that we are positive will mean a change of pace in the preparation and management of the big event."

During this appointment the President of the Lombardy Region, Roberto Maroni launched the World Expo Tour: "Today’s proceedings - he said - mark just the first of many events that, between now and 2015, will positively contribute to the capitals of the countries participating in the exhibition”. The governor of Lombardy then made a point of highlighting the important input that Expo Milano 2015 will give to the future of the planet: "It will not remain in the collective memory for the monumental buildings constructed but, instead, will leave a message because of its substance."

By means of a video connection the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, emphasised "the importance of Expo Milano 2015 in promoting the EU values. I am positive - said Barroso - that the Expo will be successful. It will be a unique opportunity for all of us in Europe to increase our visibility and the voice of the EU in the world." Then the Vice-President, Antonio Tajani, who also attended the meeting, said that "Europe intends to provide resources and ideas for Expo, an opportunity for an industrial revival and a moment of pride to assert European excellence".

It was, however, Diana Bracco, General Commissioner of the Italian Pavilion, who presented the draft of what will be the ‘home’ of the Italian regions and municipalities during the 184 days of the Universal Exposition: "The Pavilion will, in fact, be the 'gateway' to Italy, an incomparable platform for international relations and a exceptional brand that will help our Made in Italy to penetrate new markets and find more opportunities for growth. The goal is to revive global desire to visit our beautiful country."

Maestro Giovanni Allevi closed the meeting with a piano solo of the national anthem. Before the concert he had explained that Expo Milano 2015 will be "an opportunity to fall in love with the world of our beauty, art and creativity. I hope - he added - that this great international event will be a showcase for many artists. Through Expo they will share their visions, knowing that they will become the heritage for everyone."

they shouldn't say just countries,, they should say countries, commonwealth and organizations,, Unites nations and european comissioners can't be considered as countries, is understandable the reason for their participation, but the expo organization needs to change that

Chile, Slovakia to show culture via food at Milan Expo

Countries sign participation contracts for 2015 World Fair

(By Sandra Cordon) (ANSAmed) - Milan, August 9 - Visitors aiming to better understand two very different cultures from unique regions of the world will have the chance at Milan Expo 2015 to learn from both Chile and the Slovak Republic.

Both countries say they will use Expo as an opportunity to explain to the world more about their special foods, culture, and lifestyle.

"We will offer different perspectives on our country," Lorenzo Constans, commissioner-general of the Chile pavilion, said recently.

"In our pavilion, we will explain the diversity and richness of Chile through political, geographic and food (exhibitions)," added Constans, whose country is the first in Latin America to sign a participation agreement for Expo Milan 2015. "We want all those who visit the Chilean exhibition space to get excited, get to know our country - and have fun". Chile's 1,910-square-meter pavilion will also explore the rich diversity of its geographical, climatic and agricultural production with food production at its core.

Visitors can expect to taste typical Chilean dishes, participate in cooking classes and related events. Both Chile and the Slovak Republic will build on the theme of Expo Milan 2015: "Feeding the Planet - Energy for Life" which will focus on fighting famine and malnutrition worldwide through sustainable and healthy development, global cooperation and new technology.

The Slovak Republic will centre its pavilion in an area stretching 1,010 square meters with the theme: "Slovakia: The World in Your Pocket".

Under this theme, Slovakia will explore the richness, variety and diversity of the nation's ecosystem, agricultural production, and food, said Commissioner General Martin Polak.

The pavilion will explain how, in Slovakia, local customs and tradition live together with innovation and globalization, said Polak.

"We are very proud to participate in Expo Milano 2015," said Polak.

"Italy is a country very close to our culture and mentality, as well as in geographic location," he added.

"In our pavilion, the (Expo) theme will take on the character of 'ecosystem diversity,' a diversity of cultures and food, because Slovakia is a place where local and global influences and trends traditional and modern meet," said Polak. "We will show how the rich culture and tradition of Slovakia may help provide energy and food for the planet".

To date, fully 131 countries have signed on to participate in Milan's World Fair, which is to begin May 1, 2015 and continue until October 31 of that year. And with the latest announcements by Chile and Slovakia, 64 of those countries have taken the more advanced step of signing formal participation agreements. Expo 2015 is expected to attract over 20 million visitors and to be a massive money spinner for Italy's business capital of Milan.

Preparations on a 1.1-million-square-meter site have been underway for years.

Former American vice-president and Nobel Peace Laureate Al Gore has endorsed the event, calling the theme "very solid" and designed to have "zero (negative) environmental impact". Italy last hosted a World's Fair in 1992 with a Christopher Columbus-themed Expo in Genoa. (ANSAmed).
