Work ends on 80% of infrastructures for Milan Expo 2015

Six months before the start of Milan Expo 2015, construction work has been completed on 80% of infrastructures and is well underway on most of the 53 single-nation pavilions at the food-themed event, Expo chief Giuseppe Sala has said. Apart from the "last six or seven last-minute additions" from a record-breaking 53 countries, construction on most single-nation pavilions is making good progress. One of the last countries to begin construction was France, whose pavilion will be located next to the Italy's and will be made almost entirely from wood from the Jura region.

Milan is expecting 20 million visitors at Expo, based on the fact that about 6 million tickets have already been sold. The theme of Milan Expo 2015, which opens on May 1 through October 31 next year, is "Feeding the planet: Energy for Life", and deals with food security, fighting hunger, and promoting global food-production practices that are economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.

It will be called Allavita! The show that Cirque du Soleil is preparing for Expo Milano 2015 : dance, music and performance interpret the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life . Italian and international artists and dancers will take the stage in a show that will mix music, art, colors, food and cultural traditions. It will run from May 6 through August 23, 2015 in the space of the Open Air Theater.

The reaction of Cirque Du Soleil to its Milan experience was enthusiastic: "It is an important cultural and educational project for Italy and for the world and we are honored to be part of it" - said Yasmine Khalil - "we felt immediately inspired and excited about the idea of creating a show that expresses creativity through the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life , it is unique in every sense. " The theater is in fact a way in which art can convey important messages to people. In this regard, the president explained: "Our challenge was to have the public 'taste' the food through our performance. Allavita! will be a feast for the senses that will involve the audience through a physically stunning and emotionally compelling show. " People can make the most of the theme of Expo Milano 2015: "The event is a unique opportunity through entertainment, to educate and inform ourselves in respect to important issues. Indeed, we can entertain the audience and in the meantime, open their minds to new ideas. "

In order to better interpret the theme of Expo Milano 2015 and to reflect the feeling of life with movement and dance, there should be a relationship of exchange of energy. The choreographer revealed: "I always ask candidates to give me the best of their talents and encourage them to get out of their 'comfort zone'. They have worked so hard to present themselves in the best way, but we want to push further. Expo is an opportunity to convince all of us to see the world from other perspectives. I like to create moments of 'exciting discomfort' during the auditions, if the performer feels uncomfortable then we have done something right. At Cirque Du Soleil we do not take people who recite in unison, we want people who make our heart sing and stimulate curiosity, without being afraid to show their true colors. "

I suppose they are talking about infrastructures inside the Expo area. The outside ones are still far from being completed.

Milan protocol presented to EU Parliament before Expo 2015

The Milan Protocol designed to reduce food waste in the world by 50 % by 2020 was presented to the European Parliament Thursday ahead of the food-themed Expo 2015 Milan trade fair. The Protocol features an awareness campaign aimed at slashing the estimated 1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted around the globe, Paolo De Castro, coordinator of the S and D group of the EU Agriculture Commission who is also a member of the board of directors of the Barilla Foundation Centre for Food and Nutrition sponsoring the campaign.

The final version of the Protocol is to be unveiled at a Fortum on Food and Nutrition at the Bocconi University of Milan December 3-4. Also part of the protocol are agrarian reforms and the struggle against obesity with an emphasis on the importance of food education from childhood and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. "Food is the real big challenge of the future," said De Castro, "a global action plan on the themes of the Protocol is urgent".

The Libeskind sculptures add a nice, modern design element to the Expo.
