Despite our problems and those few people who are opposed to every kind of project, Italy is able to work very well, when the good part of the country has good intentions.

BTW every country has its own evils... but this is not the right thread to speak about this topic.

Most important thing is that we've organized a world event that will bring more money to Milan and the Italian economy. A good opportunity to speak about future challenges: how to solve world hunger, the importance of food quality & nutrition, the environmental sustainability in a more general vision... also an appointment to discover art, music, culture, etc.

Hope even Germany will give a significative contribution.

Ancient Romans claimed: "Mens sana in corpore sano / Healthy mind in a healthy body"
Expo 2015 campaign to educating public about 'the myth of the perfect body'

A campaign against eating disorders will be on hand at Milan Expo 2015, whose theme is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, the Erika Association non-profit group announced Monday. The Erika Association has been fighting eating disorders and trying to educate the public about these illnesses for the past 14 years. Its campaign is titled 'The myth of the perfect body and the refusal of food: changing educational and informational language to prevent youth eating and image disorders'.

The campaign will wrap up on September 22 with an international congress on "the perfect body," which Erika calls "a collective myth which must be fought". "This unchanging body becomes a myth for the youngest, who may begin to see their own figure as inadequate. Food in their eyes becomes a threat, leading to refusal," the group said. At Expo, the Erika Association will be on hand in the Cascina Triulza Civil Society Pavilion housing "NGOs and institutions representing the interests and the will of citizens."

Vivaio Italia
The Italy pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015 world's fair opening on May 1 will host Vivaio Italia - or Italian Nursery Garden - a round of concerts, performances and debates that will involve 725 schools from North to South Italy. Every day children from five Italian schools will display their work with a single common denominator: give indications of how they see the Italy of the future. The work will be on show in a dedicated space within the Nursery Garden Italy, which will also host lessons and debates on nutrition and sustainability, the overarching themes of six-month Expo that runs under the banner 'Feeding the planet, energy for life'. The project includes performances by music students from all of the country's conservatories for a total of over 500 concerts.

Italian environmentalist group Legambiente will promote initiatives in favor of organic farming and agricultural biodiversity at the Italian pavilion's Biodiversity Park. The Biodiversity Park will stimulate visitors on issues related to organic and sustainable food production. Agricultural biodiversity, its evolution and its preservation, will also be subjects featured at Expo 2015. And events promoted by Legambiente as part of Expo kicked off this week with the pro-environment 'treno verde', or green train. The train's annual journey is dedicated this year to the Universal Exposition. The train will also launch a 'conversion project' to promote organic farming with the objective of increasing Italy's organic production to 20% from today's 9% of farmland over the next six years. Local producers and entrepreneurs promoting sustainable farming will be invited on board alongside 2,000 school classes who will be able to visit an exhibit on food and agriculture.

The Milan Charter
Agriculture ministers from countries attending Expo will sign in June the Milan Charter, a document that binds governments to food and development-related objectives. The Milan Charter traces guidelines that the Italian government will follow to promote a more sustainable world food system.

The Tree of Life

Outside Palazzo Italia you can see the Grand Tour again. In the middle of the lake arena there is a meaningful symbol: The Tree of Life. The Tree was originally an Italian icon but has now become an international icon for many cultures and throughout cinema. It’s the final stage of our allegory. The Tree bears the fruit of our breeding-ground, lifts it up in its foliage and spread it to the whole world as a symbol of dialogue and sharing.

The design is inspired by the floor of Piazza del Campidoglio (Rome) as designed by Michelangelo. This interactive, steel-and-wood structure, 35 m (115 ft) high, lights up as the hours go by in a riot of colours, and will become the home for many of the events in the Pavilion’s extensive schedule.

Expo Milano 2015 to involve entire city for first time in world expositions' history

Before or after visiting the Expo Milano 2015, which like other world expositions of the past takes place in a confined space, for the first time visitors will be able to enjoy a sort of parallel, overwhelming expo throughout the host city. Expo in citta manages an online catalogue of the public and private locations available for events in Milan and offers support in obtaining authorizations and permits, such as occupation of public land.

The Expo in citta events are both cultural and recreational, many specifically created for children, and feature 10 categories: performance, art, media, creativity and style, Leonardo, kids, science, well-being, world city and feed the planet.

Among the most important events already on schedule, Milan will feature the biggest exhibition ever organized in Italy of Leonardo da Vinci with works of the Renaissance icon borrowed from Italian and international museums.

Another exhibition will be dedicated to Giotto, the Florentine painter who revolutionized the depiction of figure in the 1300s, with three of his masterpieces on loan.

International artists from avant-garde to today will represent the theme of motherhood that most of all embodies the idea of nutrition, central theme of Expo Milano 2015, in an exhibition, "The Great Mother," gathering over 80 works of the 20th century.

Music will be central, with extraordinary programs at Teatro alla Scala, that for the first time will stay open in August with a total of 140 spectacles during the six-month expo, and Piccolo Teatro, which will perform in many languages including English, Chinese and Greek.

Duomo Square, in the heart of Milan, will host classic and pop concerts free of charge, while public spaces in the city from parks to trams will be animated by countless music performances, book fairs, street markets and thematic events including many dedicated to water.

Security will be a central issue given the intensive program of events. The recent terrorist attacks in France have prompt alarm in Italy, where terrorism menace has become a frequent topic after international reports raised concern that Islamic fundamentalists may see neighboring Italy as a next target. A total of 60 million euros (66 million U.S. dollars) have been allocated by the Italian government for security to Milan.

Fashion designers prepping shows and museums for Expo

The Milan catwalks emptied, the fashion world is now getting ready for the Expo and its visitors. Sealing the collaboration between fashion designers and the Expo was the presence of the international event's commissioner, Giuseppe Sala, at Giorgio Armani's - the Expo's 'special ambassador' - fashion show. He will be the one to open the Expo on April 30 with a large show of his Privé Haute Couture line, from the Paris runway, and the inauguration of Silos Armani.

A good example of this sort of collaborative spirit can be seen in the restoration of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, arranged and paid - to the tune of three million euros each - by Versace and Prada, with a contribution from Feltrinelli as well. The 13-month restoration of its interior covered a surface area of 14,000 meters and will be completed in April in time for the opening of the Expo.

Due to be ready in the spring is also the new space for Fondazione Prada, with the renovation of the Largo Isarco area and of some industrial buildings dating back to the early twentieth century, as well as the construction of three new buildings that the renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhas has been entrusted with.

The designer Laura Biagiotti, also from Rome, has instead lent Giacomo Balla's 'Genio Futurista', made for the 1925 Paris Universal Exposition. The oil-on-canvas painting is part of the Fondazione Biagiotti Cigna collection, which includes over 200 works by the artist and has left the foundation only once before. Biagiotti lent it to the Expo because "it will be an extraordinary event where there will be space also for spiritual nourishment as the art suggests, as well as to to deal with nutrition-related issues".

Tod's group has instead promoted and produced 'Stardust', an exhibition on the photographer David Bailey that runs through June 2 at PAC. "With this large exhibition," a group statement reads, "Tod's is offering a large contribution to the program of scheduled events for Expo 2015 with the intention of promoting and supporting Milan, and Italy in general, as important reference points in the international culture circuit."

The schedule of September fashion shows also aims - said Jane Reeve, chief executive of the governing body of Italian style, the Camera della Moda - for a more "international air" to it, with an extra day on the catwalks that will be set aside for Chinese designers. The Camera della Moda will coordinate a series of events linked to fashion and open to the public, a taste of which was given by the inauguration of an exhibition on Via Monte Napoleone of 24 manhole covers designed by big-name designers, and the Fashion Remake show, which focuses on recycling and is currently at the Expo Gate.

Last but not least, the Expo has inspired a capsule collection of clothing by the Tuscan brand Landi Fancy: T-shirts and wind jackets with Milan's most well-known attractions on it, an underground map and 'Expo' printed on them.
