Germany, signed the contract with Expo 2015. The German pavilion is one of the largest

Germany has formalized its presence at Expo Milan 2015. This morning the Federal Republic of Germany signed the participation contract of the Universal Exposition which will be organized in Milan from 1st May to 31st October 2015. The official signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of Expo 2015 S.p.A. in Milan.

The contract was signed by Dietmar Schmitz, General Commissioner of the German Pavilion, and by Giuseppe Sala, Chief Executive Officer of Expo 2015 S.p.A., in the presence of the General Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015, Roberto Formigoni.

Today’s signature represents an important new step towards the realization of the 2015 Universal Exposition. Germany is internationally recognized as an economic and political beacon and thus its location within the Expo site will reflect this. Indeed, Germany has reserved the largest plot on the Expo site covering 4913 square metres.

“The contract that we are signing today is of extraordinary importance especially in the current historical situation that we are experiencing – declared Mr. Roberto Formigoni, General Commissioner of Expo Milano 2015 -. Such an important country as Germany has decided to invest in Expo Milano 2015 because it considers it to be a unique opportunity for its growth and an exceptional opportunity to showcase German excellence. It is a sign of great confidence in the Milan Exposition and, in particular, of interest in the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. I am sure that the German pavilion will provide content of the highest value and quality on the theme. Today’s signature is highly symbolic, because it helps to further strengthen the very positive relations between Italy and Germany and to relaunch our mutual viewpoints in these difficult times”.

“As active and dedicated members of the global community and EXPO sector, it goes without saying that Germany will take part in every World Exhibition authorised by the BIE Bureau International des Expositions (International Exhibitions Bureau) – Mr. Dietmar Schmitz, Commissioner General of Section (German Pavilion), explained -. At the 2015 EXPO, we will once again boast one of the largest pavilions. We intend to demonstrate our country’s extraordinary capabilities and outstanding expertise in Milan, yet the German pavilion will also show that we are cosmopolitan and creative people – with a good sense of humour.”

“In this phase, our operational activities with the participating countries are becoming more and more concrete – said Mr. Giuseppe Sala, CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A. “Today’s signature is an excellent example of this. Germany will have a fundamental role within Expo Milano 2015. We are certain that the German Pavilion will supply a very original interpretation of the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for life. Today’s signature is one of the most important milestones with which to start the International Participants Meeting which will be held next month in Milan. Indeed the IPM will be the occasion during which many countries will sign their participation contracts”.

Children Park between games and good habits

The Reggio Emilia world famous educational strategy inspire the thematic area dedicated to children and families

The educational strategy at the base of Children Park, an area dedicated to children and families at the site of Expo Milano 2015, is the heart of the collaboration signed by Expo 2015 SpA and the Istituzione Scuole e Nidi di Infanzia of the Reggio Emilia Municipality (the Reggio Emilia Institute of Kindergarten and Elementary School) on November 27th. A place of play and knowledge, Children Park will offer a moment of relax and fun for all those who visit the Universal Exhibition in Milan. On its paths the children and their families will learn healthy lifestyles and good eating habits.

The Park and its theme is of the utmost importance for the Universal Exhibition, therefore Expo 2015 SpA has decided to start a collaboration with cultural institutions and government whose excellence in the educational philosophy is recognized throughout the world. Hence the agreement with Reggio Emilia, a city of great tradition in education, known for having developed the "Reggio Emilia Approach", and educational method appreciated and applied all over the world, from China to the United States.

This cooperation, signed by the CEO of Expo 2015 SpA Giuseppe Sala and the President of the Istituzione Scuole e Nidi di Infanzia of the Reggio Emilia Municipality, goes in this direction.

To develop the project of the Children Park, Reggio Emilia will provide its expertise in the pedagogical and educational systems and the skills acquired in design and communication. Reggio Emilia and its educational approach will be alongside the Expo Milano 2015 during events and international meetings related to the family and the children’s education issues.

Supported by a worldwide network of experts and researchers, the Reggio Emilia Institute of Kindergarten and Elementary School will give added value to the agreement with the Milan World Expo. The purpose is to define routes and occasions of game that will enhance the theme and the principles of the Universal Exhibition. The new generations, thanks to the discoveries and adventures of the Children Park, will become more aware of the great challenges of food and the availability of resources with which humanity must face.

Looking for the future Changemakers at the Young’s Round Table for Expo 2015

ChangeMakers is looking for new talents and ideas among start-ups presented at the Young’s Round Table held on December 4 at the Palazzo Affari e Giureconsulti in Milan. Here, in the presence of Bruno Ermolli, President of Promos, Cristina Tajani, commissioner for Policies for Employment, Economic Development and the University of the City of Milan and Danilo Maiocchi, Lombardy’s Central Director of Integrated programming, Valerio Zingarelli, CTO of the Expo 2015 Company, and Andrea Costa, Manager of the Telecom Italy Expo Project, presented the "ChangeMakers project for Milan Expo 2015".

"Expo 2015 - explained Zingarelli - is both a model of strong technological innovation applied to the three environments to support the visitor experience, namely the Digital Smart City, the Cyber Expo and ICT Ecosystem (outside the Expo), and a real opportunity for young innovators and business initiatives, starting from those start-ups that prove to be coherent with the idea behind the Expo ".

A business acceleration program, ChangeMakers seeks to identify and support the development of 10 projects, carried out by young people under 30, to improve the lives of at least 10 million people. Between March and April 2013 the selected projects will be supported and developed with the help of managers and experts. The "call for ideas", will be open until December 31st 2012.

To help the young ideas to become true, Expo 2015 SpA along with its Official Global Partner Telecom Italia - promoters of the initiative - are asking for the support of the business world, looking for sponsors that, with their experience and expertise, will help improve and enhance the projects’ strengths.
Using digital technologies and paying attention to the sustainability, the future ChangeMakers will engage in a variety of themes: from healthy Eating to safe and sufficient mobility, from pollution to the enhancement of cultural heritage, from public safety to education. The selected teams will build on the experience of 16 teachers and 50 among experts, professionals and managers. The most innovative projects will be presented to potential investors and business partners.

The participation of Expo Milano 2015 at the Young’s Round Table promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Milan therefore acquires a particular relevance. Over 50 young entrepreneurs, in this session, have presented the business ideas of their start-ups. A good starting point to identify the Changemakers for Expo Milano 2015.

Expo 2015: Finmeccanica to be the technology partner

The Finmeccanica Group will be the technology partner of Expo 2015, the Universal Exhibition to be held in Milan from 1st May to 31st October 2015, for the Safe City & Main Operation Center platform.

The partnership involves Finmeccanica supplying goods, infrastructures and services to a value of 28.3 million Euro and will allow the Group to implement for the first time in Italy the innovative Smart, Safe and Secure City model for the surveillance and protection of the exhibition site, pavillions and other infrastructures, and for the safety of operators and visitors.

The project will be carried out by Selex ES, the new Finmeccanica Group company also specialising in systems for the management of large events and hi-tech information & communication technology, surveillance and security solutions.

More specifically, the partnership involves "turnkey" supply of an operating centre capable of monitoring and supervising the event from a security point of view, collecting, integrating and showing the information flows from heterogeneous systems so that they can be used by Expo 2015 operators, as well as making them interoperable for other organizations operating in the area.

The operating centre will comprise an open/service oriented platform, thanks to which the operators will be able to use specific application software for the management and location of equipment and people in the field, to monitor visitor flows in order to prevent excessive crowding and potentially critical situations for security, and to manage any emergencies.

Those in charge of the operating centre will be able to use a 3D satellite map of the exhibition site (created by e-GEOS, a company in which Finmeccanica has a shareholding) which will allow a genuine virtual immersion in the environment being monitored, to give a better understanding of the scenario and, as a result, greater operating efficiency.

The partnership also involves supplying a safe TETRA standard professional communications system, including 500 radio devices and relative network infrastructure, integrated with an advanced proprietory platform, known as PERSEUS, which will guarantee communications and data and information exchange between the TETRA network and other existing heterogeneous and Long Term Evolution (LTE) commercial networks.

Finally, as part of the video surveillance, Finmeccanica will supply latest generation uncooled thermal micro-cameras developed by the US subsidiary DRS Technologies.

"We are proud to be technology partner at Expo 2015 - says Giuseppe Orsi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Finmeccanica - The Safe City model we will be creating for the event is a demonstration of our Group's commitment to the use of cutting edge technology to serve security. The solution planned by Finmeccanica for EXPO 2015 takes advantage of the experience matured by the Group over the years, both in command and control systems for defence and in air traffic control systems and management of large events. One of Finmeccanica's main goals is to become the reference technology partner for cities that intend to evolve towards Smart City models, satisfying in this way a broad range of needs not only in the security field, but more generally relating to activities that are carried out on a dayto-day basis in our town centres, such as mobility management, power distribution and environmental monitoring."

"Expo 2015 - explains Giuseppe Sala, CEO of Expo 2015 Spa - is developing the exhibition site using a Digital Smart City that will be the reference model for how the most innovative and advanced technology can make the life of citizens more comfortable, efficient, rich with educational content and at the same time safe both from a physical protection and an information technology and digital point of view. We are extremely satisfied with the selection that has been made. The Finmeccanica Group represents a strategic Partner on which to found development of the innovative Smart & Safe City, to the benefit of visitors and Participating Countries. A large company - concludes Sala - with a leading role not only at Italian but at world level has realised the strategy and opportunities offered by Expo 2015: that is truly great news. Finmeccanica's state-of-the-art solutions will integrate perfectly with what the other five strategic Partners who are already on-board in this project are creating."
