Seychelles flag for EXPO 2015 prominently displayed in Milan

Dec 10, 2012

Monette Rose, the Seychelles Tourism Board Director for Italy, reported from her Office that the Seychelles flag for EXPO 2015 is being placed next to the Statue of Dante in Via Dante in Milan.

Seychelles is a known and much sought after holiday destination for Italians, and the visibility of Seychelles in Italy remains always important. Monette Rose was overwhelmed when the Seychelles banner with the country’s national colors and the name Seychelles was erected in Via Dante in Milan next to the much photographed statue of Dante. This is for the forthcoming Expo 2015.

“We could not have been luckier for a better position than that. We are looking forward to start working on the Expo 2015 for the benefit of such a beautiful country as Seychelles,” Monette Rose said.

“Seychelles will continue to work hard to claim its fair share of the Italian holidaymakers after sun, sea, and sand, because we have the best for these holidays. But Seychelles will also double its efforts to say that we have more than just sun, sea, and sand, because our diversity remains top of the list of USPs for Seychelles. We are unique by having both granitic islands and coral islands plus the diversity of our people gives us a unique cultural heritage which gives the Seychelles our very own Creole Seychellois food and a blend of music mix with a difference,” said Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture.

Expo 2015 Milano will see Seychelles move to showcase its beauty, diversity, and why it remains special with its clean and clear turquoise blue seas and white sandy beaches.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).

Thailand will build a 2,947 sqm pavilion and contribute to the cluster of rice

This morning the Kingdom of Thailand signed the participation contract at the next Universal Exposition to be held in Milan from May 1st to October 31st, 2015. The contract was signed by Mr. Chavalit Chookajorn, Commissioner General of Thailand and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and by Mr. Giuseppe Sala, CEO of the Expo 2015 Company.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Thailand, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Chavalit Chookajorn, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olan Pituck, the Inspector General, Mr. Wittaya Chaisuwan, the Permanent Representative of Thailand to FAO, Minister (Agriculture) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome, Mr. Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs, and by Mr. Alberto Virgilio, Honorary Consul of Thailand in Milan.

Today’s signature is another very important step towards the realization of the Universal Exposition in Milan, the theme of which is “Feeding the Planet, energy for life”. Thailand is the largest producer of rice in the world, with expected exports in 2013 of 8.5 million tons (FAO estimate, 2012), a very important commercial partner for Europe and Italy (In 2011 imports of the European Union (EU27) reached the value of 24.1 billion USD, with an increase of 10.7% compared to 2010. Among European countries, Italy ranks 24th. Joint Country Report - Thailand, 2nd semester 2011, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development).

The theme chosen by Thailand for Expo Milano 2015 is "Nourishing and Delighting the World", a way to depict, through an intelligent use of technology, the characteristics that make Thailand a unique country in which food is not just nourishment for the body but also for the soul.

The 2,947 square meter pavilion will reproduce the colours and decoration of Thai architecture using the characteristic materials of the culture of Thailand. Sustainability will be the central theme, in particular the importance of dealing effectively with the challenges posed by sustainable nutrition based on the idea that everyone should have access to healthy, safe and sufficient food.

EXPO is an event of great importance for Thailand which has proposed the city of Ayutthaya as the candidate to host the next Universal Exposition which will be held in 2020.

QUOTES

"We are all called to find new ways to sustainably overcome hunger and poverty. Environmental protection also depends on agricultural innovation.

Thailand is a major player in global production and export of quality food and agricultural commodities. For this reason, we are very interested in participating to World Expo 2015 and to exhibit at international level the value of Thailand’s contribution to the crucial issue of: ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. Our pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 is a journey both through the traditions and the innovation that characterize Thai food culture. The importance of sustainability is and will continue to be central - said Mr. Chavalit Chookajorn, Commissioner General of Thailand and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives".

“I am positive the Thailand will be a key player for the development of the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ – said Giuseppe Sala, CEO of the Expo 2015 Company -. We expect Thailand to be part of the thematic itinerary of Rice, to participate in the activities and events related to the Cluster of Rice and to delight visitors with stories of Rice culture and Rice tradition. Thanks to Thailand’s involvement in the Milan World Expo, I am sure the rice history and tradition will be enhanced”.

Expo 2015 - Handicraft enterprises and food, the agreements signed

SIGNED THE AGREEMENT WITH CONFARTIGIANATO

"Expo Milano 2015 will be a major showcase for the Made in Italy and for all handicraft enterprises." Affirms Giorgio Merletti, National President of Confartigianato Companies, during the signing of the agreement on December, 17th, together with Roberto Formigoni, Commissioner General for Expo Milano 2015 and Lombardy Region President, Diana Bracco, President of Expo 2015 Company and General Commissioner for the Italian Pavilion, and Giuseppe Sala, CEO of Expo 2015 Company.

The purpose of this agreement between Expo Milano 2015 and Confartigianato is to enhance the small and medium enterprises guaranteeing visibility and strategies during the World Expo, as well as working towards the presence of Confartigianato in the Italian Pavilion. "All this - says Merletti - is an important opportunity for growth of the Italian economy and, in this direction, we will work to aggregate the best businesses in our Country."

The world of institutions and the enterprises will therefore join their efforts and create a table of coordination, active until December, 31th, 2015, to create synergies and develop joint projects on the Universal Exhibition’s themes. Expo Milano 2015 and Confartigianato will build together an international network of relationships to place Italy in an European and Mediterranean framework: from the promotion of projects and partnerships both in Italy and abroad, to the communication strategies about local and global projects, from the identification of the future "best practices" to the promotions of the opportunities the Universal Exposition will create for the small businesses.

Confartigianato will be an important partner in the development of the Italian Pavilion: "It will be a platform for international relations, essential for all businesses - says Diana Bracco -. This collaboration will enhance young businesses and products of excellence." The CEO Sala has also assured the enterprises, stressing that "all the countries will build its own pavilion for the Expo and will need the know-how of the Italian craftsmanship."

"This agreement - adds Roberto Formigoni - has both a political and a technical meaning. We want Expo 2015 to be the first major post-crisis event, and a unique opportunity to boost SMEs and micro enterprises."

EXPO 2015-COLDIRETTI AGREEMENT TO VALUE THE FOOD

The excellences and the themes of Expo Milano 2015 are the strengths of the Agreement Protocol signed by the Expo 2015 Company and Coldiretti at Palazzo Lombardia on December, 18th. "The theme of agriculture is absolutely central to the Expo - explains the Commissioner General for Expo Milano 2015 and Lombardy Region President Roberto Formigoni -. According to FAO, over the next forty years the agricultural production will need to grow by 60 per cent. This is an opportunity for the development of sustainable agriculture at the global level."

The enhancement of the Italian agriculture and the spread of the principles and values that inspired the Universal Exhibition are the main points of the Protocol signed by the president of Coldiretti Lombardy, Ettore Prandini, the President of Expo 2015 Company and General Commissioner for the Italian Pavilion, Diana Bracco, and the CEO of Expo 2015 Company, Giuseppe Sala. Among the objectives of the Protocol stands out the intention to identify forms and modalities of the presence of Coldiretti at the Italian Pavilion and develop joint initiatives.

"The collaboration with Coldiretti will bring a specific contribution on the topics at the center of the Expo and in particular on the central concept of the Pavilion: Vivaio Italia (Nursery Italia)", says Diana Bracco. Prandini agrees: "The Expo will be an opportunity to know our territory. To enhance our visibility, focusing on local products and cultivations”.

"A proper and balanced nutrition for everybody and a sustainable development of the planet is the main theme of the Expo Milano 2015 - Adds Giuseppe Sala, - Coldiretti plays a key role in the diffusion of the Universal Exhibition’s issues, therefore its collaboration will be crucial to the success of the event. Expo 2015 - With the Postal Police, the fight against cyber attacks

The Minister Cancellieri: "Expo is a challenge to win"

“Expo is a great challenge Italy has to win”, said the Italian Minister of the Internal Affairs Annamaria Cancellieri taking part to the signing ceremony of an agreement to keep safe the technological infrastructures of Expo Milano 2015, on 18th December. “The Government is close to Expo Milano 2015 – she added -. This event can count on its support. Italy, during the World Expo, must show it is a great Country”.

Electronic networks’ security will be the real test bench of the event. The agreement, signed by the Italian State Police Chief and General Director of the Public security Antonio Manganelli and by the CEO of the Expo 2015 Company Giuseppe Sala, comes out from the need of avoiding possible crimes and damages to the IT systems used during the Milan World Exposition.

“The State Police is becoming a web guard working against the more frequent risks – Antonio Manganelli explained -. This agreement signed with Expo 2015 is very important because we need to control and oversee the electronic environment”.

Thanks to an office of the Centro Nazionale Anticrime Informatico per la Protezione delle Infrastrutture Critiche (National Centre Against Electronic Crimes and for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures), the Postal and Communication Police Departments will operate in the Media Center of Expo Milano 2015. From here the most sophisticate IT systems active in the Site to provide the visitors with services will be controlled.

“Expo Milano 2015 is having a good time from different points of view – Mr. Sala said -. Security and safety must be guaranteed widespread while the Net, we know, is full of risks. The world is worried about it and pays attention to this theme. More than 100 Heads of State will visit the Milan Expo Site on 2015 and we cannot underestimate any danger”.

The agreement, aimed at developing a plan to safeguard communication and information on the web, is the main result in the protection program involving the critical IT infrastructures of national interest supported by the Internal Affairs Minister.
