The new year starts with new confirmations for Expo Milano 2015. Thanks to Laos, Sovereign Order of Malta and Zimbabwe the number of Official Participants to the World Expo of Milan has risen to 116.

This was announced by Commissioner-General for Expo Milano 2015 Roberto Formigoni on Twitter: ““Laos, Malta and Zimbabwe on-board for Expo 2015. There are 116 of us 841 more days to go”.

The attention of Countries, of International Organizations and Civil Society on the challenges and opportunities of Expo Milano 2015, starting from its crucial theme for the future of mankind, is high. “At this point - said Formigoni - we expect an explosion of creativity, innovation and a unique involvement of people, because it is enriched by universal colors, made from strong contributions that will come to the debate on the theme of food”. The Milan World Expo will be the stage where Participants will be able to suggest their innovative solutions to develop the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”: from food safety to sustainable development, from the fight against hunger in the world to the improvement of people’s lifestyle.

Malpensa connects the world to Expo

On the 13th January, games and workshops at the airport for the opening of the third satellite

“Malpensa is the gateway to the Expo and Milan visiting card”. The mayor Giuliano Pisapia is sure the opening of the third satellite of the Airport’s Terminal 1, presented on January 10th at Palazzo Marino, will foster the success of Expo Milano 2015. “The prediction of 20 million arrivals and tourists - he added - is not risky at all, but it is coming close to reality. Many will land at Malpensa Airport, the first sign of the city’s welcome”.

The press conference for the third satellite was attended also by the President of Sea Group, Giuseppe Bonomi, and the CEO of the Expo 2015 Company Giuseppe Sala. The new structure will enhance the arrivals “from those countries in which we seek visitors, such as the Asian Countries and the Middle East - said Sala -. This is a very good news: the goal of one million Chineses coming to the Exposition is confirmed”.

All flights from the countries outside the Schengen area will converge in this new wing of Terminal 1. From the United States to South America, from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) to Qatar, from Singapore to Hong Kong. Not to mention the flights from the BRIC countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China.

The new structure expands the terminal capacity by 50% and improve passengers’ services. Thanks to innovative solutions, the third satellite will be able to host together two Airbus A380, the largest aircraft in the world, embarking passengers across three piers at the same time, like in the JFK airport in New York.

“Malpensa Airport’s Terminal 1 - said Bonomi - will have a total capacity of 30 million passengers every year”. The works for the new satellite began in 2009: “We must plan and have a long term perspective - he continued -. Give our customers an improved service is a goal all the more important looking forward to Expo Milano 2015: by then we want an airport even more welcoming and functional”.

The new wing of Malpensa Terminal 1 will be opened on January, 13th, during the Malpensa Party Day. Four exhibition areas will show the four world’s corners that can be reached from the airport: North and South America, Eurasia, the Middle and Far East. A virtual journey around the world to discover the charm and flavors of those distant places through live performances and activities dedicated to children and adults.

Expo Milano 2015 will take part in the celebrations. From 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the Expo Corner kids and families will find games, surprises and entertainment. For example, in the Coloribo’s workshops children between 5 and 12 years will play with food design and in the same time approach the theme of the Milan World Expo. Orange like carrots and red as beetroot, kiwi’s green and black as olives: all the natural flavors and shades of seasonal vegetables and fruits will be used to paint with food and eat the garden’s colors.

In late January, the announcement of the 10 winners

Five hundred eighty-three projects, presented until a few hours before the New Year, the Call for Ideas for “Changemakers for Expo Milano 2015”, business acceleration program related to the challenges of the World Expo, promoted by Expo 2015 Company along with its Official Global Partner Telecom Italia Group, has closed.

The projects were submitted by more than 1,500 young people under 30, from 21 countries around the world, including India, China and Somalia, ready to live in Milan for two months and build here their digital, sustainable and innovative start-up. The announcement of the 10 teams selected for the innovative business acceleration program is expected by the end of January.

This coming spring will be really intense for the Changemakers selected. For 8 weeks, from March to April 2013, they will be accommodated free of charge in a temporary campus, where they will live and work in close contact with each other, focusing exclusively on developing their business idea.

Aided by 16 teachers and 50 mentors, with the support from the Make a cube team, the first incubator in Italy specialized in the acceleration of enterprises with high environmental and social value, the selected teams will transform their ideas in 10 sustainable and innovative start-ups. This is the peculiarity of the Changemakers for Expo Milano 2015 incubation program, designed to encourage a new way to make enterprise, combining business, innovation and social and environmental sustainability.

At the end of this journey the 10 start-ups will be then presented to the institutions, to potential investors and business partners. ChangeMakers seeks to identify and support the development of 10 projects to improve the lives of at least 10 million people, thereby making Milan and other cities in the world smarter, livable, green, solidary and competitive.

“Changemakers for Expo Milano 2015 – said Carlotta Ventura, Domestic Media Director of Telecom Italia Group – is a major challenge for Telecom Italia Group and the other partners involved, which aims to create the conditions for developing ambitious business ideas, able to generate a positive impact on millions of people: not just start-up with good prospects of success in the market, but real business ventures able to combine economic sustainability with social and environment. Expo Milano 2015 represents a unique opportunity for projects and experimentation, a groundbreaking step forward that must necessarily be measured with great ideas and highly innovative models of transformation and enhancement of the reality. The fact that he had received about 600 projects in a few months is a remarkable achievement”.

Coop Partner of Expo for the Supermarket of the Future

Coop is the "Food Distribution Partner" of Expo Milano 2015. Together with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the first Italian chain of supermarkets will be part of one of the most innovative areas of the World Expo. Coop will co-design the Future Food District, the supermarket of the future.

Purchase through portals and video walls, displays tracing the products’ origin, touch screens and flexible payments. Coop will use the most advanced technologies to make the shopping experience hi-tech and personalized for the visitors of Expo Milano 2015. As Food Distribution Partner, Coop will promote initiatives (tastings, consulting and training) to support healthy eating habits and raise awareness on responsible consumption.

With partnership, worth approximately 13 million euro, Coop will also distribute no less than one million entrance tickets for the World Expo. The supermarket of the future aims to be a model of social and environmental sustainability, exportable in other settings: the objective, to date an idealistic one, is to achieve energy self-sufficiency.

Among the innovations that Coop will make available to the Future Food District’s visitors there will be a "special" cart made in recycled and recyclable materials. With permission, it may be subject to tagging and relative traceability, and provide specific marketing / promotion depending of the areas visited.

Through its network of physical outlets and web sites, Coop will distribute approximately one million tickets to Expo Milano 2015, combining them with products or services.

“We are proud to have participated and won the Requests for Proposal – explained Vincenzo Tassinari, President of the Management Board of Coop Italia during the press conference that announced the collaboration -.The values of Coop are fully consistent with the theme of Expo Milano 2015 ‘Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life’. Coop is not just a supermarket chain with good products at great prices, but also an economic model showing the utmost importance of combining the market’s logic with an increasing social responsibility. The retail point is the place where this model manifests itself and becomes visible, a place belonging to the community where the choices made downstream materialize themselves. Now the participation at Expo Milano 2015 will engage us in the study and design of a new vision of supermarket, a bet that we consider necessary and vital in front of the behavioural changes that we have already registered among our members and consumers. Drive the change and stimulate innovative and efficient projects is part of Coop mission. In meeting this challenge we, together with top Italian producers, will carry out a formidable work to promote Italian excellence in an event which will have over 20 million visitors from all over the world”.

“Thanks to operating partnerships like Coop’s one, the World Expo takes form and strength every day – declared the CEO of the Expo 2015 Company, Giuseppe Sala -.

The theme of nutrition will have one of the highest points of representation within the Exhibition site with this collaboration. The Future Food District will be an area dedicated to the tomorrow innovative eating habits. We are proud that the supermarket of the future will be created together with an Italian chain: it shows the central role played by our country about 'food', on an international stage. The focus on environmental sustainability and the promotion of best practices that have always characterized the activity of Coop are a guarantee for the success of the World Expo. Coop and other major international companies have already accepted the challenges contained in the claim 'Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life': they will contribute to make Expo Milano 2015 the best place to enhance the Italian and foreign excellence in both food and technology”.

“With the arrival of Coop as Food Distribution Partner – Giuliano Pisapia, Mayor of Milan and Special Commissioner of the Government for Expo, said in a note – we are looking towards the possible developments in the food chain and the active role that consumers will play in it. This is one of the greatest and most fascinating challenges of Expo Milan 2015: the declination of the Exhibition content through the most advanced technologies. The Future Food District goes beyond the Expo and is part of the Smart City Milan project, the intelligent and sustainable city we are building. As testified by the ongoing debate among international institutions and individual countries, we have come to a situation which requires a total rethinking of how we use the land and water, how we can fight malnutrition and overnutrition and their heavy social and economic costs, how to reduce food waste. It is a revolution of ideas and a way of thinking that must concern agriculture, food industry, consumers and especially distribution: we need it to create of a new model of social and environmental sustainability”.

Sooo basically the expo will be another New Age propaganda popularizing the expensive and low effective projects while the real change making patents are kept under a key.

If they are so worried about the enviorment maybe they could do a little presentation on what does gmo corn do to rats, or explain the basics of water privatization which has already started in the third world countries.

Hah, at least this time it doesn't include a giant, unpaid demolition of homes.
