Caledonien abandones their plan for a new 25 floor building, instead they will renovate their existing building, and they are considering building a new hotel next to Kilden:

Stiftelsen Arkivet
Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter won the invited competition for “Stiftelsen Arkivet” (The Archive) in Kristiansand, a National Center for Peacebuilding and
for historical reflection and dialogue among generations.

The Archive is a national center for human rights and historical reflection, where the existing building and the new building is resolved within the idea
of dialogue and social interaction. The starting point for the project is the existing building, which form the basis for the center with its clear and
rudimentary shapes, materials and construction. The circulation and accessability are prominent in the structuring of the center. Varying visual room
sequences are created with basis in the structure from the existing with connection towards the landscape, the site, as well as the building interior.
The interconnection between the existing and the new build creates a dialogue between the two unities, which appear as one single entity.

Well, let us hope they don't cut it too much. The project could be a real symbol for Kristiansand. (but probably for the best that they get a symbol that is less tied to religion or cults)

According to Byggeindustrien, a final solution is getting closer for the Fellesterminal project.

Fellesterminalen is a project seeking to bring the railroad station, bus terminal and ferry terminal closer together, while also releasing a new development area of 70.000 sqm for residential and shopping purposes. ROM eiendom is the developer behind the project.

Why this project has never been presented here beats me, but here are some drawings for the project:

You'll see a time scale for the project at ROM eiendom's project page, but this is before recent delays. The project has been delayed due to objections (innsigelser) from multiple authorities. Now only one objection is still standing, which most likely will be resolved this spring. Read the whole article in Byggeindustrien here: http://www.bygg.no/2011/02/68416.0

It was presented back in the days there were still some tall buildings in the plans. I guess due to the crap renderings...

Rom Eiendom has proposed to build a highrise building near Arendal station.

Surprisingly the politicians are very positive to a signal-building at this location that is located on the other side of a hill from Arendals old town. Local newspaper quotes one of them who suggests that the plan stipulates a miniumum 100m tall building. Not often is a developer asked to raise the height of a project by local politicians

If that render shows a 100m tall building (or something similar), then building have to be absolute massive!

It doesn't, that is the proposal from Rom Eiendom 50m tall and 13floors. Planutvalget suggested it to be (a lot) taller than what we see here.

This will illustrate the landscape better:

Ok, I didn't read the article so I thought Roms original proposal was close to 100m and the local politicians just wanted to add a few meters. Still dosen't think it looks like a 50m building though.

One of the great projects in Norway we have been lacking updates from its the new cultural center in Kristiansand. ArchDaily have a article about it today, with several construction pictures.

It's sort of remind me of the opera house here in Oslo in that it looks awesome from the sea, but lack a connection to the rest of the city. Nice with articles about norwegian architecture at archdaily. Here is the link:
