Seems very similar to the highrise at Ensjø, which is also designed by Kristin Jarmund (so not that surprising). I like both.

That looks much better than the earlier plans for Fellestermianlen! They seem to be using some kinds of glass art, and me likes

Flekkefjord Cultural Center

On the waterfront of Flekkefjord, a town on Norway’s south coast, Helen & Hard incorporates a theater hall, cinema, library, gallery, youth club and cultural school for their design of the
Flekkefjord Cultural Center. Designed for their client, Flekkefjord Kommune, it has recently been approved for construction.

Flekkefjord’s narrow streets are lined with traditional timber houses, whose small scale contrasts starkly with the massive volumes of the new cultural center. Mediating between these
different scales drove the design process.

The diverse functions of the project were divided into four individual “houses” and the spaces between them creating gathering and circulation spaces. The “between spaces” have been
filled with a fanned, continuous stair which links the forecourt, the façade and the levels of the foyer within. The facades of the houses, both interior and exterior, are woven together to
create a three-dimensional public concourse.

Vesterhavna

Vesterhavna is a almost 500 000m2 large development project in the harbour area. The project is still in a early development stage, but this is the
latest plans published in June 2011. When construction can start is still unknown as the current container harbor and other industrial and harbor
facilities has to be moved first. When moved they aim to develop this area over a period of 15 to 20 years. The price is estimated to be
somewhere around 10 to 12 Billion NOK.

Volumes
  • 175 000m2 - 210 000m2: Residentials, 4000 inhabitants.
  • 60 000m2 - 80 000m2: Retail and shopping, 200 - 300 stores, restaurants and cafes.
  • 100 000m2 - 140 000m2: Offices, 7000 employees will work here.
  • 4000 parking lots, all located beneath the ground.

View the renderings in high resolution

Kristiansand as of today, Vesterhavna is the harbor to the left of the city.

All illustrations is by Rambøll.

Kristiansand is growing a lot these days, and no better way than that to accomodate the new residents!

The plans look fantastic, but where are they planning to put the harbour and industrial facilities? I'm guessing the areas surrounding the city won't be best pleased with any large industrial projects in their area, just as with the container rail and harbour facility relocation debate in Trondheim.

Isn't it pretty obvious in the plans where they're moving it?
