It continues to surprise me that MARC isn't interested in restoring commuter service to the Old Main Line (Baltimore-Frederick). Important as restoring rail connections to (especially Annapolis) may be, my guess is that the OML would offer the most bang for the buck.

Curviness isn't as major a problem when dealing with commuter rail, since the transit pattern is already start-stop every mile or two or so. Furthermore, MARC and CSX already have a working relationship (see: Cumberland Line) so the precedent's already there. Plus, even though the ROW itself travels through the Patapsco Valley State Park, it would serve the part of the Baltimore metropolitan area which currently has the least rail service...frankly, it would be a better new start than the (also-important) Westchester line.

I hope they extend MARC to Wilmington.
The Wilmington-Newark sector is very busy, often standing-room only.
Having three railways operate that sector (MARC, Septa and Amtrak) should be a top priority for Delaware.

They will probably have to do quite a bit of work before that happens such as quad tracking from Baltimore to just before Wilmington, add two bypass tracks as well. In fact, I am almost thinking Amtrak's NEC Master Plan should be prioritized since even when Acela gets off the tracks, that is only about 2-3 slots an hour maximum. However, NEC Master Plan states that most of the area will be at 100% capacity utilization by 2030.

My favorite MARC vision http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IleclKMZ1M...-h/RegRail.JPG The blog is called Track 29, this is the author's work and not of my own.

I don't know if this has been mentioned here, but a new Metro-North station is supposed to open on the New Haven Line in Connecticut in time for the next systemwide schedule change (October 16). The station is called Fairfield Metro Center and it's between the current Bridgeport and Fairfield stations. It's the third train station in the town of Fairfield (pop. 59,000).

the only other one that has reached the construction phase is West Haven, expected to be complete in April 2013 and 3% complete as of March 2011.

The latest update from the CT DOT is that there are now 30 M-8s in revenue service on the New Haven Line, and the first Nebraska-produced cars will be shipped this month.

Here is a photo by me of Septa's only rail line today (others did in the past) that operates with a single car, the Cynwyd Line:

LOL , they need to restore that line back over the Schuylkill River then Ridership would climb and those silly one car trains would be history.

What's stupid is that it costs $4 to go from Cynwyd to 30th St. station.

IIRC SEPTA didn't want to spend to restore the Pencoyd Viaduct. The natural terminus of the line really is Ivy Ridge, though.

There weird , they said it was near collapse when it wasn't.....then just ended service over it. Septa must be run by idiots , if this were NJT it wouldn't happen.
