Claymont project could add 5,000 jobs

Jeff Mordock, The News Journal 8:16 p.m. EDT April 30, 2015

An artist’s rendering shows the First State Transit Center, part of the First State Crossing project proposed for Claymont.

CDC also will construct a new transit center on a 12-acre site roughly half a mile east of the existing Claymont Train Station. The transit center will include 600-foot passenger platforms, bus connections, 650 parking spaces, bike and pedestrian access and a ride dropoff area.

The First State Transit Center is expected to replace Claymont's current train station. Collins said the Delaware Department of Transportation expressed concern about the train station because of the lack of parking and that it sits on a section of curved track that could create a safety hazard.

By Kimberly Drelich

Groton — The commissioner for the state Department of Transportation said Thursday that investments in rail will be key for eastern Connecticut, as well as other parts of the state.

James P. Redeker spoke to the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut on Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's 30-year transportation proposal and his 5-year transportation plan. His presentation on the long-term plan, which calls for $100 billion in investments, highlighted proposed upgrades to bridges, highways, rail, ports and Bradley International Airport. Malloy has formed a committee to consider how to fund the long-term improvements

Family of Ellen Brody, driver in Metro-North crash, to sue

Khurram Saeed and Hoa Nguyen 7:59 a.m. EDT May 5, 2015

The family of Ellen Brody, the driver at the center of the deadliest crash in Metro-North history, plans to sue the railroad and others for her death, saying a badly-designed grade crossing that should have been closed years ago is to blame and not the mother of three.

Her family has filed a notice of claim, the first step before a lawsuit can be pursued. It does not say how much they are seeking in damages.

Brody, 49, of Edgemont, and five train passengers died in the crash.

Direct rush hour train service to the Jersey Shore starts mid-May, NJ Transit says

on May 04, 2015 at 1:48 PM, updated May 04, 2015 at 5:35 PM

NJ Transit officials were successful in getting federal funds to give commuters six one-seat rush hour trains between New York and Bay Head starting later this month.

The new service is a prelude to NJ Transit officials seeking funds to extend summer express service on the North Jersey Coast Line this year, said Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokeswoman.

The six-new-rush-hour trains, announced Monday, lets passengers skip having to change trains in Long Branch to reach shore towns points in Southern Monmouth and Ocean counties. They also would offer tourists more options for additional direct rides to the shore.

SunRail gets $93 million to expand into Osceola

By Dan Tracy Orlando Sentinel contact the reporter

SunRail officially has won a $93 million grant from the federal government to expand the commuter train system 17 miles south into Osceola County.

Managers had been confident of getting the money from the Federal Transit Administration because the Osceola leg promises to carry 2,000 riders daily, or about half the number of people who now get on the train each work day.
Beth Kassab: SunRail celebrates one-year anniversary

Beth Kassab discusses SunRail's first year with video blogger Jon Busdeker.

"While this news was not unexpected, it is certainly welcome, as it will allow us to expand service schedule and move us toward a regional passenger system for all Central Florida," U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, said in a press release.

Is it correct that the line between New York Penn Station and Sunnyside Junction is double electrified?

It is four tracks wide, and each track has 750v DC 3rd rail and 11.5kv AC overhead wire. The DC is original to 1910, and the AC was added in 1935. This sort of thing is illegal nowadays, but this section was grandfathered in when they wrote the law.

That section Between the East River Tunnel Portal & Woodside Station is one my favorite on the entire LIRR System. The View of Manhattan & Long Island City's Skyline coupled with a yard full of trains is breathtaking...and the speed you fly through their is incredible...

Fly through there?

Why do LIRR trains get to fly through there when every time I take Amtrak I'm waiting for ages?

I think it has to do with the track layouts and slow speed switches? The Hell Gate Line speed limit is 50mph , while the LIRR Main Line is 80-90mph.

No Charges for Engineer in 2013 Fatal Metro-North Derailment
By BENJAMIN MUELLERMAY 14, 2015

The Bronx district attorney’s office said on Thursday that it would not file charges against the engineer who fell asleep at the switch of a Metro-North Railroad train in 2013, causing the train to hurtle off the rails in an accident that left four people dead.

The engineer, William Rockefeller, who was later found to have obstructive sleep apnea, nodded off as the train approached one of the sharpest curves in the region’s rail system at 82 miles per hour. The speed limit through the curve was 30 m.p.h.

1984 New Jersey Transit Map , The Boonton line didn't merge with the Montclair Branch intill 2002 which severed service to Northern Newark , Belleville , parts of Bloomfield & Arlington. 27 of those Stations were closed due to low Ridership & 5 were due to the Lower Boonton Line closure in 2002 which was a mistake. I can see Ampere coming back down the road with all the redevelopment underway in East Orange , Harrison has been proposed as part of a Transportation overhaul to handle the redevelopments in Harrison , the West Trenton Line & Raritan Valley Line restoration to Philpsburg would see all but 2 stations restored... South Street in Newark was closed during the PRR Era the Newark City Council has requested the PATH add a station near there when they extend the line to the Airport...

Stations closed since 1980 Include
