Air Algerie opens Lisbon to Algiers link

Quote:
The Algerian flagship carrier, Air Algerie, ran its first ever flight between Lisbon and Algiers on Monday with the route getting four flights a week, Márcio Ferreira, Director General of GSA AviaTeam that represents the Algerian firm in Portugal, told Lusa News Agency.

Ferreira said that while the company was considering the viability of opening up the route to Porto, its first priority remained consolidating its Lisbon link.

The 1 hour and 45 minute flight between the Portuguese and Algerian capitals starts out served by a 142 seat Boeing 737-600 with the company hoping to fly some 4,000 passengers over the course of this year.

The Air Algerie representative added that the intention was also to leverage the company’s African hub with connecting flights onto 27 domestic destinations, nine other capitals in West and North Africa and the Middle East, Beijing, China and Montreal, Canada.

PM launches construction works of Algiers international airport terminal IV

ALGIERS- Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal has launched Thursday the extension works of the terminal of Houari-Boumediene international airport.

"This huge project, represents the future of Algeria," said Sellal after he had laid the foundation stone of the new terminal, which will have a capacity of 10 million passengers per year.

The new terminal is between the terminal 1 (international fights) and the new airport lounge. It will stretches over 73 hectares.

The construction works of the DZD 90.299 billion terminal have been entrusted to a Chinese company, which is due to be completed within 40 months, i.e. in 2018.

During the working visit to the province of Algiers, Sellal, who is accompanied by several ministers and the Wali (governor) of Algiers, will also inspect the construction site of the airport's new control tower, which is due to be delivered by December 2015.

As you might notice, I have combined the following threads:

- AH | Air Alegerie
- Algeria Aviation News

into one, united thread. I have noticed that the two threads have a small number of posts for each one that I have decided to combine the two so that it can become a unified place for discussing Algerian aviation developments, including Air Algerie, the upcoming Algiers International Airport Terminal IV, and other related airline and aviation developments in Algeria. I just hope that this unification will work so that everyone can discuss what's going on in Algeria under one roof.

From today, this thread will house everything about Algerian aviation, including Air Algerie and other carriers in the country and airports throughout the nation. I want to make this thread even more efficient and fun to discuss in as possible.

Algeria: Air Algerie to Open New Routes to Africa, Announces Ghoul

Quote:
Algiers — National Company Air Algérie plans to open new routes to Africa, announced Monday in Algiers Minister of Transport, Amar Ghoul.

Speaking during the 46th General Assembly of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) being held on 10 - 11 November in Algiers, the minister underlined that Air Algerie eyes to "benefit from Africa's economic growth by opening new air routes to South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Chad."

In this regard, he indicated that the total figure of the world air transport is of 3 billion travelers per year, including 144 millions in the Middle East and 70 millions in Africa, "which gives Air Algerie a greater scope of progress."

With Africa's share in the global air transport hitting 2.3%, there are significant trade opportunities to seize in this continent, Ghoul said.

Moreover, he announced the construction of five control towers and a centre of aviation control in Tamanrasset which will be put in the service of African countries.

Algeria is developing 20 airports meeting international standards, besides it makes more investments in several projects so these airports are equipped with new security systems and managed in compliance with rigorous rules, the minister said.

Also, the emergence of new airlines, the modernization of airports and the purchase of new aircrafts by Air Algerie will help increase the capacity of air transport to 20 million passengers by 2019 against 6 millions currently.
