I'm quite strongly anti-religious but that doesn't stop me having a great appreciation for classical church architecture, and this is a very nice example, some stunning pictures too. I never expected a classical cathedral style structure from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but my Googling tells me the LDS Church is actually headquartered in Salt Lake City - so I guess this is kinda their version of the Vatican?

I have been there. It is trully an amazing structure. Too bad I was not allowed to visit the interior... it's for members only!

I, too, would love to see images of the interior, but you have to be a Mormon to enter and IDs ('Temple Recommend' cards issued by home congregations) are checked at the door.

Yes.. it´s kind of a Mormon Vatican.. but this is not the only classical LDS architecture... I´m gonna put some other pics from other mormon churches around the world and they´re very impressive...

Interesting, I actually found a site with a photo tour of the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, as well as interior images of a few other Temples.

Fascinating.

Can't stand the church, but I love the temples. Nauvoo, IL is a really interesting little town to visit. The preserved architecture there is unique and charming.

I lived in Utah for half a decade so I do have negative opinions about the LDS influence in state government policy, although they do have some beautiful churches.

Here's one from my former hometown of St. George. I didn't take this pic but the one who took it as a page for pictures of churches here.

Here's a pic of a mormon church in my hometown Independence MO. The temple lot was beleived to be the garden of eden by joseph smith. It's not the hq but it is a predominate mormon location.
