Judging from the newspaper reports in the past weeks, the authorities seems to be desperate to pull down the North Overbridge. I don't understand the extreme enthusiasm to this project when the Banerjee Road is still two-lane and it would take much doing to demolish the mutli-storied buildings that dot both sides of Banerjee Road.

Why can't the powers-that-be divert this enthusiasm and interest to first construct the Saleem-Rajan Road KSRTC overbridge that does not require any land acquisition, and which would serve as effective means to divert traffic when North Overbridge is reconstructed.

As of now, this rare display of enthusiasm and haste by the authorities to pull down North overbridge could be a move to boost the toll collection of Pulleppady "ROB" where one contractor had abandoned toll collection citing poor returns and the second contractor is on the verge of doing so.

Al least if they had completed the approaches roads to this Pulleppady ROB before starting demolition of North bridge, it would have made some sense.

As of now, I feel this proposal ranks as a case study on how to fleece the hapless public.

AFAIK, Salim Rajan Flyover is in tender. Re-Tender in fact. Not sure if it is awarded. yet or not.

Yes, it could be toll collection, but ANY action is good action on these projects. Also, the new bridges would bring the bottleneck further closer to Kacheripady, forcing the need to widen the stretch. Good strategy in a way, whether intentional or not.

Deadly Junctions

Quote:
The city may be well on its way to achieving metro status but basic infrastructure still requires to improve by leaps and bounds.

Road junctions are proving to be dangerous spots, as illustrated by an accident at the TVS junction at Kalamassery on Wednesday in which three lives were lost. The same junction has witnessed more than 250 accidents in the last three years but nothing has been done so far.

Often many traffic signals in the city stop working. If crossing an intersection safely has turned into a hazardous task during the day, traffic signals are switched off during the night causing nightmares to both passengers and pedestrians.

The standard practice is that the traffic signals are switched off automatically at 8 pm and reactivated the next morning.

The Kalamassery accident took place hardly 15 minutes before the signal was to be activated.

Deccan Chronicle takes a close look at the deadly spots and why they pose a risk to life and limb.

The road to disaster

Death trap: The TVS junction at Kalamassery has witnessed more than 250 accidents in the last three years but nothing has been done so far.

Fund crunch: The traffic police department has no plans to replace the existing traffic signal system with modern ones because there are not enough funds available.

Junctions that need flyovers

*Kundannoor Junction
*Vytilla Junction
*Fisheries College Junction Panangad
*Palarivattom Junction
*Edappally Junction
*Edappally Toll Junction
*University Junction Kalamassery
*TVS Junction Kalamassery
*Aryas Junction Kalamassery
w Premier Junction Kalamassery
DC

Kalmassery badly needs a flyover to ensure such things dont happen in future. Unfortunately the authorities havent even waken up to need for flyovers at major junctions like Edappally,Vyttila and palarivattom.

DLF Infinty Towers, Kakkanad
Welcome to New Town’s signature project – The Infinity Tower. This exclusive residential high-rise by DLF stands tall amidst the world class integrated township of New town. Located on seaport - Airport Road, in close proximity to the Kochi SEZ, Info Park and Biotech Park, this is as close as you can get to Kochi’s corporate hub.

Hats off to our Kochikaaran for his performance!

Quote:
The jury headed by Bollywood filmmaker J.P. Dutta gave the award for the best film to Adaminte Makan Abu, by debutante director Saleem Ahmed, a riveting tale of a poor old couple longing to go on a Haj pilgrimage.

Salim Kumar, known mostly for his rib-tickling comedy roles, won the best actor award for his poignant performance in the movie. Along with him, Tamil star Dhanush also got the best actor award for Aadu Kalam.

Mr Salim had earlier lost the national award by a whisker for his performance in Achanurangatha Veedu by Lal Jose. It was sweet revenge for him this time. “I hope this removes the stigma on those who enter the film industry from the world of mimicry,” he said.

They were always considered as a low quality builder ..Unfortunately lot of people got foxed by their mega launches and pricing.

NEW COCHIN was a real PATTIKADU project It was 10 kms from Aroor itself to some remote place.

Construction quality is very bad. They used to give full page advertisement in some prominent newspapers like Malayala Manorama. These kind of ads persuaded people to book flats without proper enquiry. If you see any of Apple's completed project, even a common man can easily understand that the quality is very bad. No need to be a Civil Engineer also. Now it proves that apple projects ads in channels/newspapers were so powerfull.

On the lighter side, at least doctors have escaped the scam. You know, "Apple a day keeps the doctor away"

Some old news about Apple - a- Day. It's strange they are now considered as a low quality builder. When these projects were announced they were the toast of the town

Sure! How can anyone evaluate the build quality when a project is announced?

That's true, but those weren't their first or second projects. I mean they were already there in the market. Anyway good riddance. These are the companies which bring shame to the entire industry, like Satyam did to IT.

AFAIK, they have a project at Vazhakkala on the main road(Near Lulu Office). Construction quality is very bad for that project itself. It is one of their old projects.

I know that project. I think the construction is par with the price It is a cheap studio apt sold for 11-12L. What do you expect?

We mallus have this "come scammer, take my money" attitude. The series of ads itself was reason to be cautious.

Yes, Dileep.. Ita complete studio apartment but the price starts with a price of 14L at the time of launching. Later they raise the price to 17 to 18 lacs. I think the name is Apple Heights.

No. IIRC, they sold them at 10-12L. My bro had considered buying one, but wisely decided against it. Not sure about the launch price though.
