It definitely doesn't look clean and well-ordered. Rather it looks pretty messy with lots of uncontrolled urban growth. There doesn't seem to be any subways or other rail-based public transportion, but instead all transport appears to depend on cars...hardly modern and future oriented. And from the looks of the photos there doesn't even seem to be a proper sidewalk along most of those roads.
Jakarta is a city with big contrast, some areas are very orderly while others rather crowded & messy. You'll find a good balance of everything. Despite that, I really enjoyed my stay there several years back.

Very nice photos Skyprince. I always enjoy your teip reports. Btw, I like Indonesian food. I feel Indonesian and Malaysian cuisines are quite similar to our Bengali cuisines.

I spend few years in Australia and used to eat south east Asian foods a lot, specially thai, malay, vientamese, indonesian etc. Like many of the south east Asians, Bengalies are rice and fish lovers. Many Bengali cuisines are kind of fusion of Indian and east Asian cuisines. For example, like Thai cooking, in many Bengali food you can see the use of coconut(specially in sea-food and prawn curries).

Here is picture of Bengali prawn malai curry(prawn with coconut milk curry)..

Cool Saraf, Indonesian food is extremely diversed since the country is so dispersed. When you compare the food in Jakarta to the one in Manado it's as if you're comparing native food in Norway to the one in Italy.

Well there are some similarities between Bengali food with Indonesia/Malaysian but most of my Bangladeshi friends cannot bear with the food in Southeast Asia; they always complained on why we put sugar in our foods and why are there many weird vegetables ( like beansprout ) used in the cooking.

Thanks egypt

Well most people still believe that Indonesia is still the same problematic country as showcased by media during the riots in '98

I mostly showed the photos of Jakarta's middle-class suburbs. Not the central business districts which impressed me alot with hypermodern skycrapers and very posh malls, you'd never feel that the country is a lower or even really middle-income, but rather an upper middle-income nation.

Jakarta is overall modern and organized, full stop. When I visited all other developing countries I knew that I was in a really developing nation, but definitely not Indonesia. The country belongs to another league- their cities are clean, well-ordered with beautiful modern buildings allover, superb brand-new cars everywhere, most people live in solid comfortable homes & people are generally disciplined and stylish . Not only Jakarta, but this is also based on my experience backpacking in Sumatra last year. Among all the countries that I visited so far, Indonesia has the biggest difference between the real economic data and the real development/prosperity on the ground !

Jakarta looks very modern and civilized on these pictures, compared to the description on Wikitravel (look at the "stay safe" section on this page http://wikitravel.org/en/Jakarta), that tells about street crime, terror attacks, floodings, earthquake and the many poor people that live next to the rich ones.

Anyway, it seems very interesting, great job! I would like to go there, as part of a Malaysia/Singapore trip!
