Bump... so, Lufthansa has sent its B747-8I to EZE some time back. Perhaps it can become a regular to Buenos Aires' main gateway to the world...

The very thought of using this airport just fills me with anger.

I don't think a single person there is qualified for their job.

From today, the two Buenos Aires area airports:

- Aeroparque Jorge Newbury (AEP)
- Ezeiza-Ministro Pistarini International (EZE)

will be unified into a single thread so that all developments from Buenos Aires can be better discussed under one roof. It will also allow cross-discussions between what's going on on both the domestic and international ops to and from both airports, and it will allow users to bookmark just one thread for everything in the Argentine capital.

Air New Zealand have announced an Auckland-Buenos Aires route for 2015.

Auckland could become a key trading and tourism hub linking the economic growth regions of South America and Asia when Air New Zealand starts flying to Argentina next year.

Air New Zealand announced today that it will launch three-times weekly services to Argentina's capital Buenos Aires late next year using a newly refurbished 304-seat Boeing 777-200ER.

It is the airline's first South American route in its 75-year history.

Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon said the new route positioned New Zealand as a hub for people travelling from Australia and Asia through New Zealand and onto South America, and vice versa.

"Coming into Auckland is the most direct route to get you to Latin America," Luxon said.

Centre for Aviation analyst Blake Moore said New Zealand could be an attractive option for connecting business and trade between South America and North Asia.

Flying via Auckland or Sydney into North Asia is, in most cases, only marginally longer than travelling via the eastern United States hubs like Los Angeles or San Francisco, he said.

This would give Air New Zealand a key advantage over Australian competitor Qantas, he said.

"Air New Zealand's services to Hong Kong and Shanghai depart in the late evening so, assuming a midday departure and arrival from Buenos Aires, this could be the most attractive one-stop proposition into Asia," Moore said.

Total visitor arrivals from Chile, Brazil and Argentina increased 11 per cent from 20,300 to 22,600 in the year to October, according to Statistics New Zealand.

Auckland Airport spokesman Norris Carter said the new route would add 95,000 extra seats a year from South America.

The new route strengthens Auckland's position as a hub airport for Asia, Australasia and the Americas, he said.

BusinessNZ chief executive Phil O'Reilly said the route would result in South American business people stopping in New Zealand on the way to Asia, building ties between New Zealand and South American nations.

Buenos Aires also provided a more direct route for trade into Brazil, which is a global economic powerhouse, he said.

I guess the current economic situation in Argentina must have played a role for British Airways to reduce service to Buenos Aires.

What? Inflation? Maybe, but I don't think it's so much of a problem, a lot of countries have high inflation. And other airlines are starting new services or increasing the previous ones to BA, so I don't know if inflation is really the cause.
