Why is it so?The only recent news I heard was that Master plan is ready.Bauxite road is being upgraded as an integral part of the project.

Belgaum ring road planned in two phases.

2) Hindalga-Kakti-Halga

Total ring road length 38 kms.
Ring road breadth 100 feet
285 acres of land needed
Rs.1425 lakh for land acquisition
Ring road total expenditure Rs.30 crores(2006 rates)

More NH stretches to be widened

Quote:
* NHAI to be entrusted with the work
* The move is aimed at widening the roads to four-lane ones
* World Bank aid likely for developing 826 km of State highways

MANGALORE: The State Government will transfer 2,000 km of national highways to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) within the next two years for widening, according to N. Lakshman Rao Peshve, Secretary, Public Works Department.

They would be transferred in a phased manner for upgrading them into four-lane roads and maintaining them, he said and added that so far, 1,500 km of national highways had been handed over to the NHAI.

Roads in the State have been categorised into village roads, major district roads (MDRs), State highways and national highways.

Mr. Peshve said that the State Cabinet had recently decided not to declare village roads as MDRs and the latter as State highways in future unless they are physically upgraded to the specified standards.

He said that the State had 53,000 km of MDRs and 21,000 km of State highways. Only 8,000 km of State highways were two-lane, he said.

The State proposed to upgrade the remaining stretches of State highways into two lanes in a phased manner with external funds and under public-private partnership. Stretches with high traffic flow would be developed first.

The State was likely to get World Bank aid for widening 826 km of State highways and Asian Development Bank funds to widen 650 km of State highways in this fiscal.

It had been proposed to widen 1,300 km of State highways under the PPP model, he said.

Belgaum Ring Road

In 2006 a Jaipur based company was awarded the contract but even before the work could commence the urban development ministry cancelled the contract and gave it to state road Development Corporation. And here it all began, the never ending story of court cases and we having to wait for a period not known.

The Jaipur Company rushed to the High court and the court stood by the Jaipur based company. After this citizens felt now all will be good, but it was not to be, the Belgaum authorities challenged the court decision in a higher court. And still the matter is under hearing. When it will be heard and when it will be disposed is not known

BANGALORE: The Union Ministry of Surface Transport has given its approval to upgrade 4,900 KM of state highways to national highways, besides clearing the long pending six lane express highway between Bangalore and Chennai.

Government sources said that these issues were discussed and finalised at a meeting attended by Chief Minister B Yeddyurappa with the Union Surface Transport Secretary Brahmadutt on Saturday.

"It was decided that the Bangalore Chennai express highway should be completed in about three years and the upgradation of state highways into national highways in about four years," sources said.

Five important roads that are part of the upgradation are Bidar-Srirangapatna (608 KM), Bangalore-Gouribidnur (80 KM), Belgaum-Mehboobnagar (330 KM), Tadas-Shimoga (186 KM) and Kumta-Anantapur (315 KM).

Not sure about that, but atleast the Union Ministry has cleared the proposal,Karnataka is severely lagging in Railway density(far below national average),by mooting up the Roadway infrastructure atleast, Centre has shown some concern towards the state's logistic infra and its a good sign.

Harihar-Kumarapatnam bridge

Nice to hear that Rs. 15 crore is allotted to reconstruction of this bridge. If this bridge is rebuilt, vehicles from Davangere can take this route(Harihar-Ranebennur section) to reach Haveri and save time. Movement of heavy vehicles was prohibited on this bridge about two decades ago.
