Yep
San Diego is one of those places in the world that is as good as the pictures show. Nothing photoshoped here. Just the reality of what the place is actually like.

The County Administration Center, built in 1938, is the most prominent building as seen from San Diego's waterfront.

Beautiful city!! So sunny and I love the palms, the blue sky and the beaches look great!!

It I were to move from Brazil to the US, San Diego would be among my first options, cause it feels like some places in Brazil with all that sun and beach life.

A few photos from Seaport Village. The thing you notice is the variety of indigenous plants. They are all over the city. All the suburbs and beach communities of San Diego are famous for their well maintained landscape.

Wikipedia article on Seaport Village:

Quote:
Seaport Village is a shopping and dining complex adjacent to San Diego Bay in downtown San Diego, California. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries on 90,000 square feet (8,000 m2) of waterfront property. The Village contains several freestanding buildings in an assortment of architectural styles, from Victorian to traditional Mexican. It is designed to be a car-free environment, with four miles (6 km) of winding paths rather than streets connecting the various buildings. It is located in walking distance from the San Diego Convention Center and the cruise ship terminal.

Flickr user SBA John Wiley has captured a beautiful sky shot of the area. Seaport Village is located on the lower left side of the picture below:

I spent the day in Carlsbad. And what a hot day it was. I got there around 10:30 AM. Carlsbad is one of the larger beach communities of San Diego. It's divided into two parts: 1) the northern part which makes up mostly Carlsbad Village or the downtown area; and- 2) the southern part which is basically La Costa and its surroundings.
La Costa, considered the newer part of Carlsbad is famous for its golf course and upscale homes. I was unable to drop by there so I did most of my tour around the downtown area. Not quite as built up as La Jolla though.
The main beach in Carlsbad is Tamarack State Beach. It runs along the coast covering much of downtown. It has a length of roughly 4 miles or approximately 6.4 km. On the edge of the sand mass, a lengthy concrete walkway dominates. It's as lengthy as the beach itself. Observing it upclose, you can tell a lot of money was poured into its construction. I will call it Carlsbad's Great Seawall.
But the most prominent structure is the nearby Encina Power Plant, located just about a mile south.
One would wonder how can a power plant be built so close to the beach? And in San Diego of all places? Well, it's history dates back to the the early 50s when it was first built. It's worth pointing out however that the plant is mainly powered by natural gas and it meets today's environmental standards. I couldn't smell anything but the fresh air of the sea during my stay.

I will post the photos once they're ready. Stay tuned...

San Diego is a big city with a small city feel. It's certainly not empty, especially in the coastal areas. And keep in mind, SD has 110 km of coastline
