I love your pics. I've always been a huge fan of Lombard Street, and San Francisco athough I've never been to the US. Awesome skyscrapers, amazing architecture, great dense skyline.

San Fran has alot of similarities with Auckland too, like the harbour setting, geography of the landscape etc.

Good on ya buddy - keep the great work!

Grace Cathedral is the best on the Western Coast! Deserves a separate thread!

Cheers

I just realized that that building is like a Westcoast Flatiron Building.

We do have an old building in downtown SF that's called the Flatiron Building, Naptown. It's not Coppola's charming greenie, though ... it's at the corner of Market & Sutter & graced the opening of the TV show "Crazy like a Fox" ages ago.

Here's a picture of it:

The Flatiron Building is San Francisco Landmark No. 155. Behind it you can see the Hobart Building, which Mortar & Pestle showed us above. A few blocks further on Market is another flatironish building, the Phelan Building, SF Landmark No. 156:

As you can see, San Francisco has quite a few flatiron buildings. Oddly shaped lots and streets laid out at angles other than the ubiquitous 90 degrees/grid pattern invite such abundance.

P.S. Both pictures appear on the website of noehill.com.

well, you guys have seen the pictures! now, an important question remains. :

should i rework the thread so that the pictures are nearly two times bigger (using photobucket!!), risking a tiny bit of image distortion??? or should I leave the photos as they are?

don't fix it if it ain't broke is what i'm thinking, unless enough of you convince me you'd like to see these images in full size!

Leave them as they are, and make the next tour with the larger pics.

Next week im going to see myself and I also planned a heli flight, as SF is one of my favourite cities for that.
I remember Oakland being the default airport for Flight Simulator!

I'll put a flower in my hair! lol

Well guys, I'm back from my awesome trip I had in beautiful San Francisco! I had the BEST time! It truly is the greatest city I've ever been to.
Be on the look-out for a large photo thread of San Francisco by me.
I took over 250 pics!
I just hope I can find enough space to upload them all.

I loved every part of the city. I visited just about every nook and cranny that I could find. I LOVE the public transit system!! It's the way ALL cities SHOULD do it!
Other than the "Hyde" cable car not working for a good while on one of my days, (Too Many of US Tourists! LOL), everything went smooth and I got to see and experience ALOT!
I want to go back again as soon as I possibly can.
I wish I had 3 or 4 more days on my trip, but, I did do alot in my nearly 5 day trip.

Thanks. I did have a great time.
It makes me happy to know I got to visit that great city, but it makes me sad that I had to leave.
What other city can deliver on great expectations like San Francisco?

As for the photos, I'm in the process of looking for a site to upload alot of them. I'll probably use photobucket and some of my paid space at SSP.
Be paitent. I'll get them posted. In the mean time there are alot of great pics to drool over in this and other threads.
Oh yeah, I made it a point to take some different viewpoints pics. Alot of street scenes and "artsy" type of pics ALONG with skyline/skyscrapers pics.
I really liked the Marina District/Presideo area and North Beach AND ChinaTown!
The Castro was pretty cool, too.
The Mission was nice. Nob Hill, (where we stayed), was nice. Union Square was so fun!
Of course downtown/Financial District was awesome to gawk at.
I went daytime and night. Did ALOT of walking. Rode alot of the streetcars/buses/cablecars.
Had limo service every morning too.
BART was cool. I did not take any taxis though.
Shuttle busses, yes.

MAN! The food is AWESOME in San Francisco!
Uncle Vitos on Powell and Bush was great! We ate there twice.
I'll tell you guys the rest later on.

a modern building with statues, thats rare! That Humboldt Building is so beautiful, as for many of the modern skyscrapers they were pretty ugly, i was surprised being San Francisco, but still a pretty city!
