How would highrises alone make the city denser?

KLAM: i dont mean like just economically denser but like visibly denser "LOOKING".. and i dont mean buildings like 10-15 stories high i mean like 35 and UP.. Dont get me wrong im not saying thats probably the best idea with this economic crisis but im just saying its how i wish to See LA just a Simple Opinion... Plus im not saying i would only Like Highrises but more stuff like more entertainment centers more people walking the streets of downtown, Improovement on Broadway and more stuff to do in DTLA..

I love highrises but I'm not sure that highrises alone would make housing prices come down. If you build a massive amount of denser affordable and workforce housing I could see the cost of attaining a home dipping simply because more affordable product is on the market. But both Miami and NYC have plenty of highrises and I don't think that has made the cost of owning a home for a working family of four come down.

yeah we need more affordable housing... not necessarily all of them government assisted, but highrises that don't always come with a pool and gym and lounge... like how most people live anywhere else anyway.
all this new housing downtown has given us a surplus of luxury units and shortage of middle-low income housing. this also helps put the existing middle-low income housing units at higher prices due to demand.

There's going to be some gov't assistance regardless when speaking of low income and workforce housing. Hell even a normal salary earning middle class family gets all sorts of gov't assistance through first time home buyers et al to assist them in purchasing a home. That's why the Tea Party and these supposedly anti-gov't folks are so stupid and hypocritical. They're not concerned with gov't handouts like all of those veteran benefits that many of them receive, they're concerned with what "kind" of people are receiving those gov't benefits.

no argument, just that the units for sale and rent downtown need to vary

Not to get started again, but this is one of my issues. NY extends 100 miles through NJ and into Pennsylvania (to say nothing of out to parts of Long Island where no one has heard of NYC), but Westlake and 1000 Oaks that are 5 miles from the LA CITY limits and whose residents work mostly in the SFV are part of a different CSA (not just MSA).
SD/Tijuana was also the subject of discussion, that is, whether a border makes a difference, given the maquiladora industry and family relationships that cross the border. Same kind of issue (but different demographics) with Detroit/Windsor and Seattle/Vancouver. |

No that is NOT where you should end it. In the United States metropolitan area is the area that also surrounds the city that is economically tied to that city via commuters. There are people in New Jersey who work in New York and much of new jersey is OBVIOUSLY directly economically tied to the New york. State boundaries dont matter dude.
