Galway/Limerick raill line - pointless?

Really sad to read about the new line and it's woeful limitations:

Surely in the 21st Century it's not acceptable to have a new line that takes 2 HOURS to go 65 miles. Talk about 3rd World, I honestly cannot see the point of it. Especially when the Atlantic Corrider road route means it's at least 30mins quicker to go by road.
