Quote:
According to Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie, his new hotel will be operational this coming April. Most of Haile's businesses have centered around his real estate empire, while he has opened a non-profit school at his birthplace in Asella, Arsi. Details below about his hotel in Awassa (also spelled Hawassa) is from the official website of “Haile Resort” at http://www.haileresort.com/

A warm southern Ethiopian welcome awaits you at Haile Resort, a low-rise resort-style hotel encompassing 7.5 acres of tropical beauty. Just a walk away from Lake Hawassa, our Resort features a variety of activities whether you are coming for a business meeting or a family vacation.

WOW....Excellent job Haile!

Hope his next move will be a mechanized agriculture business / Agro industry.
Within the next few years, definitely the hotel/resort business will start saturating. Agriculture is a way to go - I think!

Thanks Yosef!

Here is an ETV reportage about the resort, including interviews with Haile. It's in English.

Look at that guy and how he is investing in his country. Go Haile!
Ethiopians are more patriotic than Djiboutians

I'm very proud and will probably visit this place next month, but like all the new resort hotels and hotels opening up, they will all be plagued by two things.

1. poor craftsmanship / quality of material (leakage, broken door handles, etc.. )
2. customer service (I don't expect the kind of customer service i'm used to in the states, but the service is atrocious in a lot of places)

i was at a restaurant with a group of my friends. An hour after we ordered, the food was still not ready so i called on the waitress and asked about our food. She straight up said "it's coming" and walked away. Not, "oh i'm sorry, let me go check for you..." she walked away and stood next to a column watching a TV that was mounted. A few minutes later i called her again and said, "you know, we ordered our food yesterday..." and she replies, "le zare new?" *smh* that was too funny

Add poor maintainance to that. The tradition is build and use until rotten.

The problem with customer service is common - some places and people are great, but many need training in simple hospitality and courtesy.

[QUOTE=yosef;54082697]

I am glad that Haile is investing on Hotel indursty. He has done an amazing job of doing that. However, when I see the above image, I wanted to say something about landscaping. Look at the area surrounding the building, it looks terrible. Purely maintained garden killed the luxury feeling of the hotel. Lack of perfect landscaping and interior design creativity are big problem for most ethiopian investors who are involved on construction related industries. It is not even that much expensive to spend some money for landscaping when you compare to the cost that spent on the building itself.

*** We have to learn a lot from our neighbour kenyans and willing to apply every details to make the place an ideal vacation destination. I hope he (Haile) will do something about this to change the agly looking of the garden. The interior design also looks ordinary. I said these not to disgrace his place but to show how simple it can be of fixing if we are willing to allow ourselves to focus on details.
