My name is Aria,

I'm from Iran, I like aviation and architecture but my passion is acting and singing,

I'm going in 2 years to Kingston university in London, I hope I can mange to follow my dreams.

I'm mostly active in Iran's section but I'm following the Iraqi one since it was started, I am very impressed by Iraq's development, I have big hopes for Iraq, different than politics and some hate issues people have, I wish the best for Iraq and it's people but what I wish the most is peace in your country, I will do my best for contributing in this Iraqi section, we have shared a long history and pre-islamic culture, and I think we are brothers and not enemies, I hope the best for all of you, have nice day/night

well. Its a bit of a chav central. But it is nicer than the rest of London! Also there's no Underground to central london (you have to use train, or bus then underground). The university in Kingston is one of the so-called ex-polytechnics therefore the standards and reputation are not as high as other UK universities (though to be honest, with the exception of about 5-6 decent universities, most UK Universities are dire for undergraduate education).

ow seems intresting, yes I will try to get my driving license overthere, hopefully, really so you think it's not a good uni? because I wanted to do Drama BA(Hons) at Kingston, do you maybe know other uni's than where you can study Drama and film?

The so-called "russel group" of universities are the leading 20 universities in the UK. I would consider all other universities in the UK to be chaff.

http://www.russellgroup.ac.uk/

Note that I am an engineer, so my perspective is completely different, I really can't advise anything about arts subjects, so you should ask someone with real knowledge! perhaps kingston is a very good university for arts and drama. But for the scientific/engineering it really isn't.

here's a discussion on the UK student forum about the subject.
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1721717

You should ask there to be honest. But one thing to be wary of. in the UK universities are basically businesses, so all of them are advertising for more students and its not easy to get to the truth of the "value" of a university.

I agree with you that undergrad teaching in this country is pretty poor in most places. However, I don't know if you've ever taught undergrads, but one thing they are is always looking for the path of least resistance to a 2.1 so that they are not excluded by the auto-filters of the major graduate employers.

For that reason, I don't blame the academics at the lower-tier unis for just giving them what they want so that they can get on with research, which, lets face it, is what being an academic is primarily about.

I would add to your list Warwick, Bristol, Bath and Southampton. They have some good departments - for research at least.

None of these places are on par with good US unis, but they are not dire.

LSE is quite notorious for focussing too much on research and not giving a shiz about undergads.,

In my view the best undergraduate education is in the countries where the education is not "commercial", like in Germany, Austria and the scandinavian countries.

I'd agree on average. But at the top end, places like MIT and Harvard are phenomenal for the depth and breadth of opportunities they give, not just academic opportunities, but connections with industry. You can get good undergrads everywhere; in fact, I'd hazard that Sharif University of Technology and Tsinghua students are on par with the top European and Americans, but where the US really stands apart is in post graduate level research.

From my experience, you can be a successful (post) graduate student in the UK, but it is a much more difficult for a number of reasons.

Yes. for postgrad work US is number one.

Best bet is:
undergrad in Germany.
PhD in the US.
