Have no clue where the Liverpool hotels thread is so this will do;

"City hotel demand keeps pace with supply...."
http://www.placenorthwest.co.uk/news...th-supply.html
interesting parts are:
"Liverpool saw strong hotel occupancy levels for February with weekend figures the highest in the five years records have been kept, at 86% full."
"The figures...showed overall hotel occupancy of 67% in February, above the same period in 2009, when 65.5% was recorded, and identical to that in 2007."
The recorded occupancy levels are all the more encouraging given the continuing growth in hotel room stock. Overlaying these numbers onto known city centre stock levels shows that 20% more rooms were sold in the city in February 2010 than in February 2008, the city's celebratory year as European Capital of Culture.

Total number of rooms sold in the city centre has grown over the years as new hotels have opened:

* 74,0000 in February 2010
* 63,0000 in February 2009
* 62,0000 in February 2008
* 52,0000 in February 2007"

Thats a staggering increase in hotel rooms - 22,000 more, nearly 50%, in 3 years - 3 years of recession!!!
And for them to be filled at the same rate too, coupled with higher prices... just extraordinary.

I take it that someone at Placenorthwest was a bit heavy handed with the '0'.

I'm sure that i don't need to but i'd just like to remind everybody that 'News From Nowhere' is a Liverpool 'business' to be proud of; albeit a non-profit-making co-operative.
Please continue to support this fine Liverpool institution.
If you need to order a book, please don't do it on-line - N.F.N is brilliant at ordering in books quickly - far quicker than Waterstones, for example.
I have, personally, really appreciated the presence of this unique business ever since it days on Whitechapel - when I could take along my lunch, make a cup of tea and then browse the books.
We often only appreciate something when it has disappeared - so please support this great Liverpool 'business'.

Better on the retail thread, where News From Nowhere has been discussed previously as it happens.

I don't agree:it is a Liverpool business. Thank-you, though, for your kind advice. Not.

My last word on News From Nowhere( for the time being anyway): it cannot and should not, in my opinion, be simply classed as retail - it is far more than that!
It is very annoying when people take it upon themselves to tell you which thread you ought to be on - not necessary -unless you've clearly got it wrong!

From my little bit of research, your discussion of News From Nowhere just extends to your acknowledgement that it exists.

Men that God Made Mad, a history of the protestant peoples of Ulster written by a Belfast-born Canadian journalist. 2008 maybe?

The young woman who sold me the book could not establish eye contact with me as we completed the exchange. Aww.

Is there a point you cannot miss, Miss? Hell, maybe she did fancy a man in a squirrel costume. Or perhaps she was terribly shy.

I thought I would include this because so often these contracts are awarded to companies outside the city region - so a step in the right direction.

Liverpool’s Nobles Construction wins £2.4m bus depot contract

Nov 17 2010
TMNW

LIVERPOOL construction firm Nobles has won a £2.4m deal to redevelop a bus station in Speke.

The company was awarded the contract by Merseyside bus operator Arriva.

The project will include the building of a main depot, two-storey office accommodation for administrators and bus drivers and fuelling facilities.

Phil Stone, Arriva North West’s regional manager, said: “This is a very important project for Arriva. The aim is to provide a clean, safe, modern working environment that both Arriva North West and our employees can be proud of. We hope this project is a success.”

The contract forms part of a £3.9m investment by Arriva to redevelop the depot.

Liverpool accountancy firm Duncan Sheard Glass buys rival

Nov 17 2010
TMNW

LIVERPOOL accountancy firm Duncan Sheard Glass (DSG) has announced the acquisition of an established practice in Merseyside.

The practice has acquired of Eric N Jones & Co, based in Bootle.

The Stanley Road firm, which advises a core of owner-managed businesses and personal clients, will continue to operate under the Eric N Jones brand, with the same staff led by Carol Jones, the widow of former principal Eric Jones, who died earlier this year.

DSG partner Andrew Moss will become lead partner at the practice and says the acquisition is a demonstration of the company’s ability to react to opportunities.

Management buyout at education specialist MGL aims to double staffing and revenues

Nov 17 2010
by Neil Hodgson, TMNW

MGL, the Liverpool-based services provider to the education sector, has undergone a management buyout (MBO) valuing the Edge Lane firm at £1m. Operations director Carl Gilbertson led the deal funded from private sources. It will see chief executive and founder John Mann step down, although he will remain over the next few months to provide continuity. Phillip Ramsey has been appointed as a new director of the firm which achieved a 5% increase in sales to £5m during 2010.

MGL (Mersey Grid Ltd) was established in 1999 and employs more than 100 staff supporting some 600 schools across the North West with a range of services such as technology, management information systems, curriculum services, consultancy support and professional development for school leaders. Its portfolio also includes the outsourcing of ICT support which embraces schools like Notre Dame Catholic College for the Arts and Chesterfield High School in Crosby. Mr Gilbertson said: “MGL has an established reputation in education services and is at an exciting stage of growth and development. We are looking forward to growing the business further and strengthening our position as a national provider of education services. In the current economic climate we are acutely aware of the need to offer schools added value and service to help them provide their pupils with the very best education.”

The company expects to double revenues over the next four years and create 50 jobs.
