Is it true that Air Berlin is ceasing service to Cape Town (CPT)?
Usually they've only operated seasonally (Nov-Mar/Apr), but the last two years AB kept a weekly flight going through the quieter months as well on MUC-CPT. Is this permanently ending the route or just suspending to move back to seasonal only flights?

AirBerlin incorporates two former Swiss A332 into its fleet, as interime arrangement until the B787-8 will be delivered. The first 787 is expected to be delivered in 2014 said today AirBerlin's CEO A. Hunold at the ITB in Berlin.
Quote:
AirBerlin will further improve the comfort on its long haul flights starting in November 2011 and will equip its complete Airbus A330-200 fleet with new seats for Business and Economy Class. The Inflight Entertainment System will be revamped in both classes as well. The new seats as well as the on-board entertainment program will be integrated gradually in the cabins of the long haul fleet.
The new Business Class configuration is fully automatic and has an inclination angle of 170 degrees. This allows the seat to be transformed into a comfortable reclining seat 181 cm long. In the Economy Class new lightweight seats are being used which helps to further ease the environment, since about 575 kg less weight per flight is carried. The lighter weight will also reduce airberlin‘s fuel consumption by 800 tons per year, and fewer emissions will be produced. The use of smaller backrests ensures more legroom.

As part of the cabin upgrade, AirBerlin has also opted for a new Inflight Entertainment System. "RAVE" is the name of the audio-video on demand system from IMS, the American manufacturer, which, in the future, will be in charge of the excellent entertainment for the long haul fleet. The new system is one of the best state-of-the-art Inflight Entertainment solutions currently available on the market. "RAVE" is a simple "Plug & Play Monitor" built into the backrest of the seat. Each passenger has available an individual entertainment system that can be operated according to his/her wishes. In Business Class, the monitor is attached to a swing arm.

AirBerlin has become the latest operator to select The IMS Company's RAVE seat-centric in-flight entertainment (IFE) system for installation on widebody aircraft.

A new concept in IFE, seat-centric RAVE differs from traditional "server-centric" systems in that each seat-back SDU contains all of the content, applications and playback functionality to provide the passenger with audio/video on demand - just like portable solutions, says IMS. Unlike the server-centric model, RAVE stores content locally in secure digital cards and is not dependent on large networks and media servers to stream content, it adds.

"We evaluated the systems available on the market today and chose RAVE because it provided the most reliable solution at the lowest cost to own and operate," says Air Berlin chief product officer Thomas Ney in a statement.

The RAVE deal is part of a broader Air Berlin "comfort" initiative, which will see the carrier bring new seats to the A330s, reports The Financial news agency.

As A. Hunold (CEO of AirBerlin) said, the ordered B787 airplanes will (hopefully) be delivered in late 2014, including lie-flat business seats.

Vnukovo International Airport welcomes new Moscow Vnukovo - Braunschweig Flight

The services that introduce a new route for both Vnukovo International and Air Berlin are being launched with the needs of the Volkswagen Concern employees in mind and will be operated thrice-weekly using the Embraer-190 twin jets as standard equipment on the route. This socially significant project is co-supervised by the RF Federal and regional authorities.

"A year ago we launched a full-cycle car assembly line in the Town of Kaluga and are determined to go on increasing the output there. This involves regular business travel on the part of the Volkswagen HQ-based expert staff to support and further develop production in Kaluga. The introduction of a non-stop charter between the Airports of Braunschweig / Wolfsburg and Vnukovo, Moscow allows us to seriously streamline and simplify our people's itinerary, thus bringing international expertise and modern technology to Kaluga". - had said Dietmar Korcekva, Director General of Volkswagen Group Rus just before the check-in for the return flight to Braunschweig opened.

Director General of Volkswagen Group Rus, Dietmar Korcekva and representatives of Vnukovo International took part in the formal ceremony.

Yes, like it seems and according to several informations (internet flight forums) the CPT-flights have been ceased permanently.

I guess I was really late in realising they ordered 787s! Which routes will the 787s fly?
