L9 southern extension (Zona UniversitÓria-Collblanc-Aeroport T1).

davroca5 went to an institutional visit of the works of L9, featuring the bosses of the World Mobile Congress, the Barcelona mayor, the regional minister for transports, and so on.

He did a mini-report, but sadly he ran out of battery during the filming:

On board, bound for Fira station:

From the last car (the authorities were on the first car, so I took advantage of that to travel alone in the back):

The train ran at test speed (some 25 km/h), leaving Aeroport T1 at 16:42 and arriving at Fira some 20-25 minutes later (non-stop).

Fira station:

All the signalling is in its place:

On the walls there are scenes and historical images related to public transport and L'Hospitalet (the suburb in which Fira station is located):

The station is quite wide and spacious. No claustrophobia:

Going to the ticket hall:

A long corridor with travelators reaches the inside of the Congress Hall main entrance. It's so long that the way out is almost next to Europa-Fira station:

This should be a pond. I don't think it'll last three or four days working till it's removed:

End of the corridor:

Speeches of the important ones:

PS: I forgot, some little things:

-Before entering Parc LogÝstic station there's the hole for the future extension of L2 from Sant Antoni via Montjuic and Foc-Cisell.

-The route is quite bendy, with lots of gradients, although the bends are wide enough to allow a good speed.

PS2: here's the link to a colleague's Flickr. Very good pics in there: https://www.flickr.com/photos/amicsdelbus/

Be glad parts are actually already open, the north/south connection in Amsterdam won't open until 2017, has been under construction (including prep. work) since 2003, and is just 9,8 kilometers long..

Yeah, but Amsterdam has the trouble with water, I suppose... That makes things trickier, I guess.

Your Dutch politicians can't be as mediocre as ours. That's physically and chemically not possible.

No they're not mediocre, they're far, far, far worse than that..
Using the word 'mediocre' in combination with 'politician' is offensive and discriminative to the word 'mediocre'..

It's easy to build in Amsterdam, they just should've used Barcelona's L9/L10 main construction method, building stationplatforms in the tunnel instead of on the outside from groundlevel.

L9 southern extension (Zona UniversitÓria-Collblanc-Aeroport T1).

Looks like finally the section Collblanc-Zona UniversitÓria will open a bit later than Aeroport T1-Collblanc. I'm not surprised.
They're working hard on it, but they started almost from scratch, since the opening of that section was not originally intended at the same time as the others.
In the beginning, Collblanc-Zona UniversitÓria was thought to be a part of the central section (Collblanc-Sagrera).

On the other hand, though, they seem to be thinking about running direct services from Aeroport T1 to Zona UniversitÓria, which would give a headway of 7'30".
This is because Collblanc-Zona UniversitÓria will be in single track. Some trains could run from Aeroport T1 only till Collblanc though (it seems).

If this is correct (source: one of our deep throat insiders from SSC Spain, quite reliable), I think that would be a bit less frequent than desirable, methinks.

This is not definitive though. It's not really news.

Bit random but I was reading the history at the start of thtis thread and thought I'd pop in to say what a wonderful metro it is ! I was there in late 2013 and it was probably the most enjoyable metro I rode in Europe.. very affordable and practical metro.

To me, its major flaw are some extra-long interchange stations that have rather long corridors (Passeig de Gracia, Plaša de Sants, Diagonal in particular).

Let's see how more practical it can get when the L9 south extension opens.

"Abandoned" TBM of lines 9/10 under Lesseps station. Trackrunners arrived to it:

Central section of L9/10 is still under construction...

Progress in the Zona Universitaria station, the less advanced station of the south section.

We have begun the work of the platform to stop Zona Universitaria new LÝnia 9 of Metro de Barcelona. The platform has been designed by the architectural firm of Carme Pinos.
