Apparently Barcelona will get a new metro line! Well, I'm sorry to let you down, but it's just that L6 will be split into two different lines once upgrade works at Sarrià station are completed. L6 will be limited to Plaça Catalunya - Sarrià, while new L12 will be established between Sarrià and Reina Elisenda (yes, a one-station shuttle service).

Why? Because platforms at Sarrià are to be widened in order to install lifts and as a result one of the four tracks of the station will have to disappear in order to create the necessary extra space. Leaving the station with just 3 tracks, it could still be perfectly possible to run Plaça Catalunya - Reina Elisenda L6 services, but surprisingly the westernmost track of the station (where the Reina Elisenda branch starts) will only be linked to the southbound mainline track. Therefore, it won't be possible to run direct services between Plaça Catalunya and Reina Elisenda (while it could still be possible in the opposite way). In any case, the change won't take place until later this year or early next year.

TMB network:

Unfortunately, only two stations of L10 sud branch off L9 sud will be opened next year (Foneria and Foc-Cisell). The official reason is that only the city of Barcelona is advancing the necessary funds to the Catalan regional government to complete the works. Conversely, the neighboring city of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is not willing to pay for the two stations that are located within its boundaries (Provençana and Ildefons Cerdà).

As a consequence, the interchange between L10 sud and FGC L8 in Ildefons Cerdà station won't be opened in the first phase, and we'll have to wait until the regional government can fund the construction of the remaining stations by itself. This issue is somehow ridiculous, as both Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat are part of a bigger metropolitan area and municipal borders shouldn't be a key factor when dealing with mobility projects.
Not very good news...

There is no money now to finish the current works and the future projects.

Even though there's no money and works on the middle section of L9 haven't resumed yet, the Catalan regional government has just tendered the project of the FGC Llobregat-Anoia network extension (including L8) from Plaça Espanya to Gràcia (via Hospital Clínic and Francesc Macià):

However, this announcement only refers to an administrative step necessary to continue with the planning of the extension, construction won't start in the short term due to lack of funding (and the financial burden of the incomplete L9 project).

A new official map showing the current state of L9 and L10 construction has been released (you can see a bigger image clicking on the link):

L4 | Summer, tourists, beach... overcrowding.

Front cover of El Periódico de Catalunya newspaper yesterday, rather self-explanatory:

El Periódico de Catalunya (04/August/2016, article in Spanish)

An overcrowded class 2100 at Barceloneta station:

Map showing the area around Barceloneta and Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica stations, with the overcrowding hotspots:

And another article, but this one is from one year ago. Same story, but this year's more overcrowded...

El Periódico de Catalunya (30/August/2015, article in Spanish)

Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica and Barceloneta stations would benefit from becoming double-ended stations.
Particularly the latter.

Two stations on L4 were turned into double-ended stations, those were Selva de Mar and Bogatell, which needed it a bit less.
I guess they ran out of money for the two that needed it most...

What is a double ended station? One with exits on both ends of the platform?

And also Jaume I & Urquinaona stations are very overcrowded now at the beach season...

L2 | Summer works between La Pau and Badalona Pompeu Fabra.

As usual since many years, L2 has had its summer closure for works between La Pau and Badalona Pompeu Fabra.

This section of L2 used to belong to L4, although it was intended to be a part of L5 then L2 right from the start.

Its construction started much earlier than it entered service, and, wether it was the constructive method used, the quality of materials, or the shallow water table, there have always been problems with infiltrations on this section, which have led to periodic closures, as it seems that the line deteriorates here much faster than on the rest of the network.

Here are some images of the works between Artigues-Sant Adrià and Gorg stations.

Must be shoddy construction and probably poor engineering, metros around the world are subject to enormous water filtrations without any problems. It can obviously be fixed with proper engineering but that require serious funding.

Stockholm metro for example has over 1100 water pumps installed expelling 47.000 cubic meters of water every single day and they have never needed to close down for renovations because of water damage.

And L9 north between Bon Pastor and Can Peixauet, L9 south between Can Tries-Gornal and Aeroport T1, L10 between Bon Pastor and Llefià and between La Salut and Gorg, L4 between Ciutadella and Jaume I, L3 between Liceu and Paral.lel, and... L1 between Bellvitge and Hospital de Bellvitge, and L1 between Trinitat Vella and Santa Coloma, they all also run on humid soils, or even below sea level, and don't have these problems.

The section between La Pau and Pep Ventura was started in the mid-1970's (just the last days of Franco's).
As you say, probably cheap materials and bad engineering, yes.

L4 had lots of issues during construction so it is not surprising they have to repair the tunnels all the time. Come to think of it, the original L2 between Parallel and Sagrada Familia was built just before (1968-1973) and that was even worse.

They basically had to rebuild the whole line when it was restarted in the 1980s which is why it took 3 years longer than was planned, entire sections of the original tunnel was demolished and rebuilt because of substandard materials.

Well... so the works are finished, and L2 has reopened between La Pau and Badalona Pompeu Fabra.

According to the regional government, this was the final cut of a series that have lasted for many years, and which were part of a masterplan to improve the tunnels and tracks, to make them less prone to infiltrations.

A sort of small-scale "Paris RER C Travaux Castor" thing, so to speak.

I hope that's true, and L2 won't get any more cuts for a long while.

And I also hope our regional government and TMB will be more transparent in the future (wishful thinking, sadly).

Can't be possible, the map you show is out of date, there's no L9 south on it, and no Sabadell FGC extension phase 1.

I have a newer ATM map than that.

The links to the maps you posted are correct though.

No. Just works on the L10 sud branch off L9 sud.

No.

Presumably there will be through service from Collblanc* station to Foc-Cisell station, meaning that L10 sud services will also call at Torrassa and Can Tries Gornal stations on the shared section with L9 sud, besides Foneria station on L10 sud branch. Consequently L10 sud will have connections with L1, L5 and L9 sud from day one.

*There's only one operational track between Collblanc and Zona Universitària stations, that's why L10 services won't reach that station in this first phase.

would this be at the expense of L9 service to the airport, or would L9 Sud frequency remain unchanged?
