Few of the most amazing department stores ever!
Macy's Herald Square, New York City image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonythe...24674/sizes/l/ image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/retokur...53897/sizes/o/ Harrods, London image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/msaksa/3234425130/sizes/l/ Bloomingdale's, New York City image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/shingen...30825/sizes/l/ Having been to all three, I would rate them as #1. I just didn't exepect someone to know the name of the style, therefore I didn't mention it. That's better than a design nobody cares about. For one thing it's very recognizable! Quote:

Someone here always correct '' this is department store'' this not department store '' Do you think you know everything ? Before say this or that
did you try to research some information ? -Do you really know what the meaning of the word '' department store'' or just use the feeling ? Decide what is this or what is that , what kind of people are you guy ? -Have you ever been to the store before decide it and tell people that it this or it that ?, or just read from some websites , -actually I never correct any stores here because I really don't know If I wanna correct I would research and show the trusted links at least more than one . I do live here and I know exactly what it is , no need someone to correct especially someone who never been in that store. some one who don't know what the meaning of word '' department store'' or ''mall'' Last time I post some picture of the store here ... of course it mall but the main part of that mall is department store from the meaning of word ''department store'' by dictionary ![]() credit : http://paragonbangkok.tripod.com/ this is define the difference is a department store has more things for less The shopping mall is a bigger environment that is more expensive ''A mall is a big shopping complex where in a lot of stores are selling their wares, department stores included. A mall can have more than one department store. The shopping websites fall in departmental category. '' Do you think that all the department store that people post here are real department store? I banned here for 3 days before I can type this again , while I correcting the bad word that I wrote type when I was upset suddenly when I finish and click save than it show that I got block already . I can't post anything here for 3 days There are no sigh at all . Really disappointed with the moderator , this is the last post . I'm not sure after I post this reply anyone gonna come to edit ? Of course they can and I can't do anything about this I would people know that your user name are not really belong to you not the hacker that gonna edite your post by the moderator, I recommend that if you gonna post something in this thread remember than someone keep watching , if you don't wanna waste of time like me then just take a look don't post picture here because your good will can turn to be bad ,

DEPARTMENT STORE: a large retail store organized into departments offering a variety of merchandise; commonly part of a retail chain Retrieved from Princeton University; http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl...6=&o4=&o3=&h=0 SHOPPING MALL: mercantile establishment consisting of a carefully landscaped complex of shops representing leading merchandisers; usually includes restaurants and a convenient parking area; a modern version of the traditional marketplace Retrieved from Princeton University; http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl...hopping%20mall That should help you work out what a department store is, as opposed to a mall. For instance SIAM PARAGON is a shopping mall with over 270 independent stores. Within SIAM PARAGON there is a department store called Paragon department store. That is the difference!! The whole mall cannot be called a department store just because there is a department store inside it.

Most mall in Asia have department store inside same name as the mall .some department store here use ''The Mall'' as the name ,
so better you change the topic in this thread to be '' department store single building or something like that'' or lock and this thread then post only store you wanna post .

@ArkinMourad. Stop arguing. You were wrong, end of story. As a native English speaker I can tell you that the mall you posted was a mall and not a department store. You can argue to your hearts content, but it's like a person arguing that the world is flat when everyone else knows it's round.
And as for the Kaufhaus des Westens. It is indeed a department store. There is no question there. Here is the Wikipedia link: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaufhaus_des_Westens which describes it as a "Warenhaus" which is German for Department Store. If you can't read German, then tough luck, or press the English button on the far left. Having not only read the Wikipedia link, but actually being there, I can confirm it is a department store. One important thing to learn in life is know when you were wrong and simply learn from it. It's not bad to be wrong. We all make mistakes every day. But if we refuse to accept when we make a mistake we never learn, do we? Besides, little looks more pathetic than the person who refuses against all odds to accept their mistakes.

not my fault the topic in this thread is really not clear it run by emotion more than reason .and I'm not wrong why I have to accept ?
Kaufhaus des Westens have some independent stores inside . if some store just call them self as ''department store'' but it hundred of independent shop inside so it still be store or shopping mall ? yes it still but some part of it not , , for Siam paragon I did talk about part of the department store in that mall it not small. the department store part own by the same building company it more than 50,000 sq.m in real place not include space for the other stuff or another independent shop . I also live here in Bangkok and I can confirm that Paragon is the Mall which have big part of department store inside. if Kaufhaus des Westens (the 2nd bigger department in EU which have 60,000 sq.m in whole building) could themself as '' department store'' why Paragon which have 50,000 sqm for the part of department store can't call ? as I said I use define .

Yes, it is pretty clear. The thread has "Department Store" in the name. As for the independent stores inside the Kaufhaus des Westens, that is actually quite common in large department stores around the world and usually found in the perfume department for the major labels, but also maybe a chemist or tailor etc. But it still doesn't stop them from being a department store because it is such a small part of their overall store.
A mall on the other hand, is right from the beginning a collection of independent shops. A mall can contain a department store and often does. A department store is right from the beginning a single store with different departments. It can contain a small section which has small separate shops and often does. You were wrong, and you are still arguing it. Nothing is going to change the fact that you were wrong. It is time now to learn.
