The forum has fallen into a depressing state with frequent depressions and anti-climatic hiccups. I think we need more discussion on major projects and subjects to spur more activity, while totally ignoring any inappropriate threads. There many interesting projects that get one or two posts than they're forgotten for several months. Furthermore, the forum isn't very organized, while other sections of skyscrapercity are getting streamlined and more efficient.

All I'm saying is that the Korean forum needs a lot of sprucing up, a good cleaning, and a fresh start.

Do you guys think we should make Korean section easier to navigate? By this I mean, creating subforums like photography and making a more standardized title inputs for projects subforum. Or do you guys think we should leave it as it is? I need your opinion.

well, personally I'm happy with how things are layed out since there's not too much traffic anyways.. But at the same time I think we should organize things so the forum is more search engine friendly -- we'll attract more new forumers this way, increase the traffic, and have a higher impact factor on the internet .

Hmm.. A few ideas:
* to help the search engines, we can create new subforums and ensure the title of the subforums has important keywords. Examples: "Photos of Korean Historical / Traditional Architecture Forum", "Residential Neighborhoods and Downtown Districts of Korean Cities", "Korean Countryside Pictures Forum", etc.
* the skybar could be renamed to "Other Korean Topics -- Food, Drinks, Restaurants, Politics, etc" and be opened to public view -> currently the skybar threads cannot be viewed by the search engines, only registered users can see them.

Like POS mentioned above, we don't have too much traffic to begin with.

But what I've been thinking was maybe if we organize forums and threads a bit, this forum could invite more forumers.

We could create photography and cityscape forum for all the photography and traditin, heritage and tourism forum for all the tradition, culture, history and tourist info threads. Plus we could merge same threads with the same topics and standardize the title input formats for the projects and constructions subforum like this:

CITY | Project (building) title | height | status
CITY | Areal development title | status

But to do this, I'll need your help and maybe steady traffic.

So please, add your thoughts.

I think I still have some unposted photos from my 2007 Korea trip, and will post some more from my very recent 2008 Seoul trip

When we reorganized the Hong Kong section, I wanted to put all the photo threads on the main page to attract attention from both local and foreign visitors. This is a bit different from the dedicated photo sections that other subforums have done.

I have little idea about it.
but just like to know your concrete idea.
I'm curious how many it'll be.
(it seems 3~4 subforums as suggested by dhuwman & POS respectively so far, if i'm not wrong?)

There are two Koreas on the planet and both of them are independent states with their own sovereignties, which UN also authorized - Both South Korea and North Korea are member states of the United Nations! In this situation, when you say Korean forum, which Korea are you referring to? South Korea? North Korea? We are not the only legislative state in Korean Peninsula from international politics point of view, though many of us won't agree to it.

As the moderator said, this is an international forum, so, we should recognize and respect the entity of North Korea. dhuwman, why don't you change the forum title from Korean Forum to South Korean Forum to begin with, and post a sticky recommendation that all posters use the term South Korea or South Korean instead of Korea or Korean when they mean to talk about something concerning South Korea?

That's a very good comment!

Firstly, only a select few countires with at least certain level of architectural activities and member participation are being represented in the SSC. In Asia, that includes South Korea and handful of other major countries, with exception of North Korea, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc.

The deal is that in SSC, most people, many of them non-Koreans or even non-Asians, come here to SSC Korea to post anything related to North Korea. That includes travel photography, news articles and North-South relationship. However, all those NK threads are about tourism, politics or economy. Hardly any of them suits the primary purpose of this very website: skyscraper, architecture and urbanism. As you may already know, there isn't much of that in North Korea anyways, thus they don't deserve a forum of their own, at least for now.

Having to clarify South Korea, instead of Korea, is at this point an unnecessary step. It's like when you're being asked about your nation of origin, you say you're Korean. Everybody assumes and knows that you are South Korean, especially among the educated populace, because nobody hardly ever sees North Koreans anyways. Whenever necessary, forumers DO clarify the two Koreas in threads.

However, I'll try to kick in if someone is intentionally leaving North or South part out of the name just to confuse or to make troubles. Please, if I seem to be unjust about that part, let me know.

When asked, I've always said Korea. Yes, there are two Korean states, but only one Korean nation. (My opinion)

Also, I feel most forum-members will be educated enough to notice that, currently, there are two Koreas whose current conditions are totally different. A separate North Korea forum wouldn't get much traffic anyways.

If North Korea's status as a sovereign state ought to be recognized in this forum, then I feel that Korean Peninsula would be better, as it would include both Koreas without implying the South or the North.

I really don't see a need to change the forum name to South Korea.

I think one way is to have the "South Korean" forum become a sub-section of the Korean Forum along with the "North Korean" forum.

Helo South Korea!

You have a nice SSC forum here, but as someone from an other forum, it's kind of difficult to find my way out in the numberous posts..

In the Dutch and Belguim SSC forum, we have split up al treads in a unic map. For exemple, if i might sugest:

(South) Korean Forum

* Korean Cities : all architectual building (if you have a lot of buildings, you can make even submaps for every Korean city)
* Korean infrastructures : rail, metro, highways, airport and harbors
* Korean Photomap : here you can post all your self made photo's!
* Korean Discussion group : here you can chat for everything accept architectures! There you can also introduce yourself, ect..

That was it! PS i'm here because i was looking for a mayor landwinningproject out of sea. I thought that it was designed by a Belgian architect that lives nowday's in America... Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot!
