amazing, never before have i seen what india looked like.
does anyone know what happened to most of these buildings espcially in the first page with chadni chowk, delhi?

from what i've seen of chadni chowk today its very messy and wires everywhere, chaotic, old run down buildings.
those paintings u've posted, it looks so beautiful.

this is the one i'm talking about:

^Lot of Delhi was destroyed during the Siege of Delhi in 1857, and subsequently not much was done the preserve what was left. A major portion of the old city was torn down after Independence and replaced with modern constructions, mostly because there was no money to maintain and repair the old crumbling buildings.

Anyways, the method of construction in Delhi today is pretty much the same as it was two centuries back i.e brick structures coated with plaster.
Of course, the cementing material and the plastering material has changed, and the embellishments (fancy arches, carved wooden pillars, ornamental domes etc.) have disappeared.

the domes, arches etc... is the indian flavour! i wish they still use those in modern designs.

i havn't visited india myself (would love to visit one day) but are most cities (especially Delhi) do they look very generic and look similar to other indian cities? like in china, most medium-large cities (with the exceptions of the major beijing, shanghai like cities), look pretty much the same for a 'un-trained' eye in terms of knowing about the cities look and feel. most of the cities architecture and oldness has gone and is just highways, highrises etc...

is india like this? are there many old ancient buildigns in delhi?

^The old houses (wadas) are all gone by now. The temples are still there of course, but the river has been dammed upstream and polluted, and the whole place looks like a dump. I'm not going to post any pictures of it but you can google Nashik ghats if you want.
