Youth Olympic Games Logistic Hub And Equipment Factory Are Now In Operation At Changi Exhibition Centre
Quote:
In preparations for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010), the Youth Olympic Games Logistics Hub (YLH), located at the Changi Exhibition Centre, has begun operations. The media was given a tour of the facility today.

A total of 500 tonnes of freight, which will take 200 truck trips to transport, and 1.5 million litres of beverages are examples of the items housed at the YLH. These items will be delivered to the Singapore 2010 venues, including sport competition venues, Culture and Education Programme sites, the Main Media Centre and the Youth Olympic Village. Other items housed in the YLH include sports equipment, timing and scoring equipment, medical equipment and supplies, merchandise and uniforms.

The Equipment Factory (EQF), which is also located at the YLH, is where the central planning and managing of logistics, as well as configuration and quality check of technology equipment are conducted before they are distributed to the venues. Approximately 2,500 units of laptops will be configured, and 6,000 mobile phone handsets will be installed with the 'Digital Concierge for Singapore 2010' application here.

“The Youth Olympic Games Logistics Hub is the backbone of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, where the hardware and software for the Games are managed and inspected before they are deployed to the venues. The operation at the YLH is highly complex as it has to coordinate and manage the freight of resources and equipment from multiple partners such as the National Olympic Committees, International Federations, sponsors and suppliers to and from the venues. The success of the Games weighs heavily on the efficiency of this core function where resource management of the Games starts and ends here,” said Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

Since February 2009, the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) has come on board as the Official Exhibition Venue Partner of Singapore 2010. Spanning over 400,000 square metres, or approximately five football fields, the YLH houses all the furniture, fixture and equipment required for the Games.

Horses Arrive for Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games
Quote:
Thirty-eight horses for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010) Equestrian competition arrived today in Singapore after travelling eight hours from Queensland, Australia. These horses will
be paired with athletes to compete in the Equestrian Show Jumping event during the Games.

Equestrian riders will be able to view and draw their mounts on 13 August 2010. This will be the first time that a horse draw is conducted in Olympic history. The assigned horse-rider combination will apply throughout the competition for both the team and individual events.

A new format will debut during the Equestrian team event. The 30 individual riders will also vie for team event medals by competing in five teams. Team members will come from different National Olympic Committees (NOC), or even from different continents. "After many months of planning and preparation we are very excited to finally welcome the horses to Singapore for the Youth Olympic Games. The provision of
horses is a Games requirement to ensure a level playing field for the athletes as horses are of similar standards1. The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has broken new ground in deciding to procure and train the horses under the same trainers in Australia. We have therefore set the stage for world class competition, and I look forward to seeing the riders and horses excel at the Singapore 2010 Equestrian competition," said Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

In the largest movement of horses in Singapore, the horses, after their arrival, were loaded onto trucks bound for the Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre (STCRC) – the equestrian competition venue. They will be under quarantine there from 16 to 30 July 2010.

The horses will be a legacy from Singapore 2010. SYOGOC has plans to relocate them after the Games to local clubs and riding schools so that they will continue to play a part in raising the profile and standard of equestrian in Singapore.

The YOG theme song is horrible... so cheesy.

"rings of the world....", "fly the flag...", reference to stars, skies, victory, and day... Eew. And WTF does "cheer the joy" mean?

Oh come on!! You are getting a little analytical!! Just appreciate it. It is still WAY better than the Team Singapore cheer for the YOG.

Maybe a song like Waka Waka would be better. They should have invited an international star to do it..............................

I've no choice but to be.

This is the Youth Olympics we're talking about. Yes, it's not as important as the Summer or Winter games, or the World Cup or Champions' League or the Commonwealth Games but it's still the Olympics. Even though this is the first Youth Olympics, the standards have been set already, and set at a bar that's very high.

This is by far, the WORST theme song for an international sporting event ever.

Singapore 2010 Delivers Free News And Photo Services To Media Around The World
Quote:
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has launched the Online Media Workroom today to give media around the world access to information about the inaugural Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010.

The Online Media Workroom will enable accredited media to access Games information on-the-go. As a one-stop-shop, it will also facilitate coverage of the Games by reporters and photographers who are unable to attend the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010.

The Online Media Workroom is accessible via the Singapore 2010 website at www.singapore2010.sg/mediaworkroom and will provide editorial and photo content to the international media for editorial use. Content will include competition schedules, real-time results, as well as information by the Youth Olympic News Service (YONS) and images by the Youth Olympics Photo Service (YOPS).

YONS is a Games-time agency-style news service provided by SYOGOC and will cover sports and Culture and Education Programme (CEP) in all venues. The YONS information will include event previews and reviews, athlete overviews, quotes of the day, press conference highlights, news stories, as well as a database of background information on Singapore 2010.

YONS has teams in every venue, reporting on every sport, all the time. Media may use this information, in whole or in part, to formulate their own reports. YONS content is available at no charge and is copyright free.

Media reporting remotely will also have access to official photos by the YOPS. Professionally-taken photographs of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame, competition, opening and closing ceremonies and CEP activities will be available for media to use, at no charge, for editorial purposes.

"We believe that the Online Media Workroom will facilitate media access to Games information more readily so that media can cover this historic event more comprehensively and in a timely manner. We encourage media, who do not have accreditation or are unable to come to Singapore for the Games to register themselves soon so that they can access to these readily available information," said Goh Kee Nguan, SYOGOC’s Chief Executive Officer.

But the thing is this...

In Olympics, the stadium for opening / closing ceremonies is also used for other events, especially the more popular ones... But for the floating stadium / stage, it is only used for the ceremonies and cycling... Hmmm

Err, for me, nothing beats the waka waka song and hips don't lie when it comes to the worst in theme songs for sport events. Seriously, what is FIFA thinking in using Shakira!! Anyway, the theme song is quite good already. People are just too fussy.

Youth Olympic Village
Quote:

The YOV will house over 5,000 athletes and team officials taking part in Singapore 2010, from 10 to 28 August 2010 for 18 days.

Located amidst lush greenery of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) campus, the YOV will provide athletes and officials with comfortable but not lavish accommodation and services. The quiet and serene environment will be conducive and safe for the athletes to rest and prepare for competition, and in their free time socialise and participate in specially-designed cultural and educational activities.

The YOV is divided into two zones: the Residential Zone (RZ) and the Village Square (VS). The RZ is further organised into five clusters for easy orientation. Ten (10) Residential Halls will each be serviced by a Resident Centre with a front desk and be well-supported by common facilities such as TV rooms, meeting rooms, wireless Internet hot-spot access, prayer rooms and shared medical spaces. Laundry services will also be provided.

In addition, the RZ will provide several training facilities for the athletes. It offers a dining hall, a Digital Media Centre including an Internet centre, a medical clinic, doping sample collection spaces as well as recreation activities. A shared services centre in the RZ will support the administrative needs of the NOCs, while the daily Chefs de Mission meeting will be conducted just adjacent to it.

The VS is at the heart of the Village. Apart from the World Culture Village exhibition featuring the history and cultures of all the participating NOCs, musical performances, concerts, cultural and educational programmes, chat with Champions, and various sport-related forums will be held there.

For the convenience of YOV residents, retail shops will be available at the VS. There will be a bank that provides services such as currency exchange, a general store, a post office and a ticketing office. To support the work of journalists, a Media Sub Centre will also be located in the VS.

The YOV will be a lively yet relaxed home away from home for residents such that they can concentrate on sporting excellence, learn to live in respect of one another, and bring back fond memories of valuable friendships formed during their stay in Singapore.

YOG torch arrives in Senegal from Berlin
Quote:

Members of Singapore band Supernova sing songs before the flame in Goree island in Dakar, Senegal (YOPS Photo).

SINGAPORE: The Youth Olympic Flame has arrived in Dakar, Senegal on the second leg of its journey that will span five continents as a prelude to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

The torch arrived in Dakar from the German capital of Berlin, two days after it was lit in Ancient Olympia, Greece on Friday.

Upon its arrival, the Flame was presented to Senegal's Prime Minister Soulayeman Ndene Ndiaye by Mr Ng Ser Miang, Chairman of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

The Flame travelled around Dakar, visiting historical sites such as City Hall and the Presidential Palace.

The YOG organising committee says the journey across Dakar brought enthusiasm and excitement to the city with many Senegalese children and adults following alongside the convoy.

The Flame was then transported to Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The torch is on a 13-day journey to celebration cities representing five continents around the world.

It will arrive in Singapore on 6 August for a traditional six-day torch relay around the island.
