It's work in progress, some are being relocated to Bawana which is near Rohini in West Delhi which is a slum rehab colony and the rest which have been recently encroached upon are being demolished.

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) About 150 huts in a slum area were Thursday bulldozed for construction of a flyover near the Nizamuddin railway station in the capital, police said.

The drive was carried out on the directions of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), they added.

A police team supervised the demolition operation near the Nizamuddin railway station in southeast Delhi.

'Residents were issued notice in advance to vacate the area and many huts were unoccupied. There was no resistance from the people,' a police officer said.

Delhi Civic Center... claim is the tallest building in Delhi ????

Quote:
A newly-constructed Civic Centre building in the heart of the capital which houses the headquarters of Municipal Corporation of Delhi was unveiled on Thursday. The 28-storeyed 112-metre landmark building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 650 crore. Spread over an area of 12 acres, the headquarters of the civic body has four six-storey blocks, one 28-storey tower block in addition to services block, water treatment plant and sewage treatment plant.

Expected to cater to 16,000 people per day, it will also have waiting areas, fountains, an open-air theatre, three halls for holding MCD House and Standing Committee meetings as well as a separate media centre.

The Civic Centre has an auditorium with capacity of 1,000 seats beside an art gallery and a restaurant. It will have a 33KV sub-station for dedicated and interrupted power supply.

The building is provided with rain water harvesting, energy efficient lighting and day light sensor systems. Water conservation will be ascertained through flow sensors and self-closing taps.

I would love to see "actually" taller buildings. This one is just a tad taller than second tallest (88 m). A building like this will not have any major effect on skyline. Either few very tall buildings or MANY equivalent buildings will be needed to have a really good skyline. CP's skyline looks good when compared within the country but when you compare with outside then

well coming from Mumbai 28 floors is not that big....

but this one looks very well designed. (ie is not ugly designed) and looks good.(aesthetically pleasing)

I would rather take a good looking shorter building than one of Hafeez Contractors ugly taller buildings.

If given a choice my priority would be

1. Looks
2. Tall

this is prob the most important issue in the country right now. if we run out of water within the next century, theres nothing we can do. this has to be our priority before we can think of infrastructure projects etc.

water harvesting should be a priority for all new and existing structures of Delhi NCR , if it can solve the water issues of Tamil Nadu then why no Delhi and Mumbai, nature gives us more than enough water to survive.

Many buildings in the Red Fort were demolished by the British after 1857. They built barracks in their place.

Unfortunately this country as a whole only thinks about an issue when it becomes a deep threat. So I do not expect this country to take water conservation as a national mission till most of it is polluted or has disappeared.

You can apply the same to terrorism and a host of other issues.

New Delhi is the 8th most expensive city to live in

The country’s financial hub, Mumbai, and the National Capital New Delhi are among the world’s 10 most expensive cities for expatriates to live in, says a survey by global HR consultancy Mercer.

Mumbai has been ranked as the world’s fourth most expensive city in terms of rental property for expatriates, while New Delhi is eighth, the survey for February 2009 said.

Mumbai has moved up by one notch from its fifth position in the September 2008 survey, while New Delhi has fallen two places from its sixth place in the previous ranking.

Russia’s Moscow has topped the list of world’s most expensive cities and is followed by Tokyo (second), Hong Kong (3rd), Mumbai (4th) and New York City (5th) as the five most expensive cities across the globe for expats to live in.

The survey highlighted that Asian cities have dominated the list of the world’s costliest locations for expats living there, with as many as six locations from the region being among the world’s top 10.

Moscow is the world’s most expensive city to live in.
In second place - in terms of most expensive city to live in - is Tokyo.
Hong Kong is in the third place.
Mumbai, as stated earlier, is the world’s 4th most expensive city to live in.
New York City is fifth most expensive.
In sixth place is Beijing.
Geneva is the world’s seventh most expensive city to live in.
New Delhi is the 8th most expensive city to live in.
London is the ninth most expensive city to live in.
Singapore is the 10th most expensive city to live in.
Shanghai is the 11th most expensive city to live in.
