Really amazing buildings! Great atmosphere! I love cities like this, sad that in Brazil we do not have nothing simmilar, just new cities...

But many buildings need some restoration, is this heritage from the dark commie days, I mean the lack of conservation? Or the city is not on its best economic days?

I have a friend from Cluj-Napoca, and Cluj seems to be much more conservated... Ah by the way, I entered the thread because I heard A LOT about Timisoara, its used in a Computer Science Artificial Inteligence book, from Norvig and Stuart..

Thanks for sharing these amazing Photos!!!

Probably.

But something else plays a role too. After the fall of communism it was decided that the people could get their pre-communism properties back. However, there is no central land ownership register in Romania, so the legal status of many buildings is unclear. I've heard stories like someone proceeding in lawsuits since 1994 still without a definitive result. And as long as no definitive decision about ownership is taken, it is of course very likely that neither party will do any big investments.

^ That, plus the fact that many of the owners are very poor people (in fact Romania is still a poor country). And it's difficult for the City Hall to force poor people to invest in restoration of their houses.

Looks like a real gem. Really feel like different cultures have left their mark on the city.

This is the title of my post <---

I agree with Kampflamm. In general, I really like Transylvanian cities. Braşov, Sibiu, Cluj Napoca, Timişoara - they all appeal very much to me. Historically I guess Timişoara belongs to Banat, but I still feel it has a lot in common with other cities in Transylvania.

Anyway... a really good looking city!

This is the Serbian church from historical part Fabric.

The Millenium church is Roman-Catholic. You also have in the area a Greak-Catholic nearby.

In Union Square near Serbian Cathedral is Serbian Vicariate.

Besides the 2 synagogues you showed us, there is a 3rd one
