Vancouver & The Lower Mainland

With quite a number of excellent threads already devoted to Vancouver and environs why add another - but I guess I could not resist. Taken over the last year and hopefully some of them are interesting - I am trying to improve on composing a shot with limited experience with a mid level digital camera. Sure takes a lot to get picture you hope is unique. If successful I will post some panoramic images.

I'm glad you like them, problem with me ( and most photographers no doubt ) is that I'm too critical, so finding a few to post isn't easy!

Vancouver

Such a beautiful metropolis, with so amazing mix between nature and highrises...

The natural setting of Vancouver is almost unbeatable. Fantastic.

The lower mainland beyond Vancouver covers quite an area and I hope to try and capture some decent images through the next few months. I find riding a bicycle allows one to see much more. Looking at photographs many of you have taken from around the world helps me to appreciate living here and trying to allow others who have not had the opportunity to see all the different areas, just as I have seen places I will never be able to visit personally. Just hope I can learn more tricks of the trade using the camera. The life of an armchair traveler!

Riding in and around china town and Hastings area, taking odd shots and it seems I was stuck on pointing the camera upwards. Much to see but getting a photo that is interesting is elusive more often than not. Hope some of you find them passable and not too monotonous!

This shows tulips being grown in the Fraser River valley of the "lower mainland" of BC...the area is just east of the metro Vancouver area. The valley is rimmed by mountains on both sides:

Thank you for posting some of your images oceanmdx, and don't hesitate to add more. If I can get more creative more will be added. Trying to see if this panorama photo will turn out reasonably well. Oops, back to the drawing board on cropping properly! Scene shows Gore Ave. looking North, the Eastern most part of Chinatown.

Panorama shots can be quite nice, and I have come across many great ones on this forum, I can only hope to get as good! See what I can come up with in the coming months. Any ideas on downsizing the image- perhaps one you can click on to enlarge?

The Central Valley Green Way -as Vancouver has named the main pedestrian/cycling route that makes it's way from New Westminster right down to Stanley Park via False Creek. It follows the elevated rapid transit line for a good part of the distance. Not perfect but it does manage to separate most of the vehicle traffic.

Overpass for cyclists in North Burnaby.

Just east of the cycling overpass is a gravel section - around 1 km. long.
