Metro link really needs a line going into the southern urban neighborhoods, like Soulard, and Lafayette square. I think connecting them to rail transit would be a huge benefit for the city.

Are you thinking that nothing is happening in St. Louis? Then think again, as Eads Bridge is undergoing renovation:

St. Louis, University City leaders kick off Loop Trolley project

March 12, 2015 11:15 pm • By Ken Leiser
UNIVERSITY CITY • In a program with touches fit for a high school pep rally, top civic leaders in St. Louis and University City on Thursday marked the start of construction on a “first-class” streetcar system connecting the Loop with Forest Park.

The $43 million, two-mile Loop Trolley is expected to open in late 2016. Construction begins on a roundabout at Delmar Boulevard and Trinity Avenue later this month.

“Today we go back to the future,” said St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. “The Loop, of course, actually got its name from the streetcar system that serviced this area, connecting people to restaurants, shopping, entertainment and jobs.”

Businessman Joe Edwards said a vintage trolley “built in a first-class manner” can support growth of economic development and tourism.

It's somewhat ironical: due to historical reasons, they named The Loop Trolley one of the few USA streetcar project that isn't an actual loop nor use the “two way in parallel streets” scheme.

I read that TDD and TriMet signed a ten year lease agreement for two tramcars once operated in the now discontinued Portland Vintage Trolley service, and Wikipedia states they will use them along with one of the ex-Milan Witt refurbished vehicles purchased for this purpose years ago. However, according to the EA (Environmental Assessment) downloadable from their site, new electric/battery powered replica cars were been instead chosen, citing ADA compliance and catenary-free operation as causes: they managed to work out problems in the end or the project had been changed about those points?

There has been a partial building collapse next to Laclede's Landing station.

This is the view from Eads bridge. The passenger platform is right below the roadway level.

Trains are not traveling interstate as a result.

Loop Trolley project moving ahead
November 25, 2015

The Loop Trolley reached another important milestone this month, as traffic barriers on Delmar Boulevard came down for the holiday season, accommodating the needs and requests of Delmar Loop merchants.

The last truckload of concrete was poured in the Delmar Loop several weeks ahead of schedule, completing more than 50 percent of the trolley tracks.

The track is complete from Kingsland Avenue to Skinker Boulevard, and most of the sections from Skinker to the Old Wabash Station also are complete.

Traffic in the Delmar Loop is now back to normal and businesses are getting ready for seasonal shoppers. Holiday lights soon will be strung on new light poles, which were installed and equipped with electrical outlets as part of the Loop Trolley project
