yeah. hopefully the cbd will one day look at expanding that way. It would be cool having buildings surround Hyde Park and a big building over the entrance to the eastern distributor. hopefully then the street will become more pedestrian friendly.

There have been plans on and off since the 1970s to transform it into Sydney's 'Champs Elysees.' It seems like a bit of a joke now but you can read a little bit about it below

I'd love to see it transformed into an entertainment precinct with cinemas, live music venues, an ice skating rink, potentially an indoor theme park, tenpin bowling alley, karaoke bars, chain restaurants - more like Sydney's Times Square than Sydney's Champs Elysees. It could act as a link between the sex, drugs and rock 'n roll attitude of Kings Cross and the hustle and bustle of the business district.

But yes, back to ANZ Bank Centre

Thank you to Stephen Nicol for giving us his time to tour this great project.

Some of us questioned the opaque glass at the entrance in Pitt St and thought it should be open. Aparantely there was alot of dicussion about this with the developers. The architect got his way at the end. It is the architects vision to create the lobby in a cube that looks like it is supended from the building. This cube is very evident in the interior and will be more noticable from the outside at night.

Here are my snaps shots. (not great quality but will give you an idea) I think is was level 38 we toured. Kindly correct me if the level is wrong. It is the one level note yet leased but in the final stages of being so.

Lobby - material used on bottom part is Limestone with a lighter comopisite on the top parts. You can see opaque glass forming cube at top

Level 38: The floor is split into three rectangles with a wedge in the middile housing fire stairs, goods lifts and toilets. The main elevators are in the south west corner. Floor heights are roughly 3.7m. 2.7m floor to ceiling and one metre for services.

We asked if we could have a look at the penthouse and Stephen kindly obliged. The penthouse is located on 42 (living areas) 43 (bedrooms) and 44 (roof garden/pool). The penthouse mainly occupies the Castlereagh St side of the building with mechanics occupying most of the Pitt St side. Construction was still being carried out on this level.

Northern side of courtyard. They have mimicked the tower roof feature. The wood paneling with cover the current black area and clear glass on the frame on the exterior. This structure will house the food outlets.

The building on the other side of the walk way from Castlereagh St will house a bar and a Scotch & Soda Store. Retail on the Pitt St frontage will Office works, ANZ Bank Branch and ANZ Wealth Management Branch
